Global Majority Freelance Youth Mentor

We are seeking new and experienced male youth workers, sports coaches and youth mentors from Global Majority (BAME) backgrounds to join our pool of youth practitioners who pride themselves in delivering high-quality mentoring to young people aged 10 - 16.

You’ll be an inspirational role model, walking the talk, being emotionally literate and competent in your understanding of mental health and wellbeing education.

Bringing a professional and creative flair to your work with young people you will also embrace the skills of those around you, to deliver truly exceptional youth mentoring and coaching.

We are very much interested in experienced freelancer youth mentors from Global Majority (aka BAME) backgrounds who want to earn additional income by engaging with and guiding young people as they transition into adulthood.

Equally important is facilitating group youth work and mentoring workshops, completing written reports and helping to build the organisations mission and vision.

Offering high-quality mentoring with a 'Culturally Safe' approach designed in alignment with The Mentoring Lab's flagship mentoring tool kit, you will work as a freelancer completing sessional hours during or after school or at weekends. Delivering face to face or online.

You will have a caseload of vulnerable young people across London and receive benefits for meeting KPI's.

With regular supervision and career development opportunities, you will join a community of mentors and youth practitioners who are committed to delivering high-quality additional support services to young people.

**About The Mentoring Lab**

Based in Hackney, East London, The Mentoring Lab is a black-led not for profit youth mentoring organisation. The home of a community of expert tutors, mentors, and youth workers, we offer safe online and face-to-face youth programmes to young people that live in East London and surrounding boroughs. Our primary goal is to work with black and marginalised youth to reduce poverty and improve social mobility to prevent underachievement in their learning and access to sustainable career opportunities. We aim to break the cycle of poverty and isolation in young people’s lives.

**What we are looking for?**

We would like to hear from you if you have youth work, Counselling, Therapeutic Mentoring qualifications, Youth Mental Health and/ or Adverse Childhood Experience training or qualifications, with and solid experience in engaging young people in youth, educational or social care settings. Whether you are an expert in your field or at the early stages of your career, you must be able to engage with young people from all backgrounds and abilities, with evidence of putting young people at the centre and safeguarding at the forefront of your professionalism.

We are looking for professionals who ‘get’ young people, believe in the use of high-quality support to aid their progression, and have a commitment to best practices, statutory policies, and procedures.

You will also need a flexible approach to working hours, be able to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills, and exhibit the attitudes and behaviours reflective of The Mentoring Lab's vision and values.

You must also have;
- An understanding of and commitment to equal opportunity, safeguarding, and quality assurance
- An ability to demonstrate a good understanding of mental health issues with a positive non-judgemental approach towards young people and their parents/ guardians with mental health support needs
- An ability to communicate with and non-judgment of all cultures, races, religions, abilities, sexual orientation, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- An integral, proactive approach to SMART targets and the ability to follow through on actions.
- An approachable, proactive personality that is able to discuss real-life issues whilst inspiring progression.
- The ability and commitment to preparing for your sessions and completing the full length of the programme.
