**Days**: 5 days per week
**Location**: Power for People’s office in Camden, London; optional working from home up to 2 days per week
**Deadline**: 10am, Monday 24th April
**Interview dates**: week of 1st to 5th May
**Start date**: As soon as possible following the recruitment process
We are Power for People, a campaigning organisation formed in 2017 with two aims: for the UK to rapidly transition to 100% renewable energy and for local communities to benefit from this great transition.
We work to achieve these aims by engaging and mobilising nationwide public support for the needed legislative and policy changes and focusing this support on the Westminster Parliament and the UK Government in order to see those changes made.
We are led by three veteran campaigners whose experience is unparalleled. Together they have achieved over twenty legislative successes from Parliamentary campaigns, including the Climate Change Act, the Sustainable Energy Act and the Warm Homes Act.
We are seeking someone to join our team who is passionate about campaigning to stop the climate crisis and can help us win our current leading campaign, which is for legislation to enable local renewable energy schemes - especially community-owned ones - to grow dramatically by empowering them to sell their clean electricity directly to local people.
Our campaign has set out its aims in a Private Members Bill, which we have won widespread support for, including from over 300 MPs from all major parties, but we also seek to see the provisions made law by any Parliamentary means available. We are therefore currently working with Lords and Baronesses from all parties in the House of Lords to amend legislation there, as an alternative route to bring the campaign’s legislative aims to fruition.
If you meet the criteria below, we would very much like to hear from you. **If you consider yourself to have little or no experience, but believe you have what it takes and can learn quickly, we would also like to hear from you.**
**About the Role**
- **Responsibilities**_
- Interacting with MPs’, Lords’ and Baronesses’ Parliamentary staff and with staff at organisations that support our campaign
- Assisting with the recruitment and engagement of individual supporters, including supporting the development of new ways to engage new audiences in our campaign
- Assisting activists with effectively engaging with their MP in relation to our campaigns, including enabling them to organise their own local events to promote our campaigns
- Contributing to the creation of engaging social media content, high quality website content and assisting with the managing of our website
- Assisting with the organising of constituency and Parliamentary lobbying events
- Assisting with the monitoring and evaluating of our supporter engagement strategy
- Assisting with financial administration relating to our funding and our partner charity, the Poverty and Environment Trust, including maintaining accurate records
You will assist with activities across all aspects of a Bill campaign: Parliamentary engagement, grassroots organising, public communications, fundraising, content creation and research. In doing so you will continually learn about Parliamentary and political campaigning.
Your tasks each week will vary depending on the evolving priorities of the campaign. You must be an all-rounder, with an ability to switch between different work streams all with the common goal of new legislation to affect transformative environmental and social change.
You will contribute to our overall objective to sign-up large numbers of supportive individuals, local groups and national organisations and to mobilise them to advocate for their MPs and the Government to support the legislation we are calling for. This will include drafting inspiring copy for our website, social media and supporter newsletters, recruiting people at events, such as local community fairs and large music festivals, and meeting with local political representatives and community activists.
We are a small and highly co-operative team, working closely with each other on many work areas. You will, therefore, have plenty of support, guidance and mentoring, based on your needs, including from the Director.
**Required Skills and Experience**
- **Essential**_
- Copywriting experience, ideally in a campaigning context, with a lively, clear and inspiring style
- An ability to build and maintain relationships with people and to facilitate and inspire them to take action
- Strong verbal communication skills including the ability to engage and inspire in person, via video call and over the phone
- Strong organisational skills
- An ability to motivate yourself and those around you
