Milestone Infrastructure Limited is currently looking to recruit a Buyer to join our Hampshire Highways team. This is an exciting opportunity to join an industry leading business where you will play a pivotal role in supporting the site delivery teams and project service levels.
Reporting to the Procurement Manager the Buyer will be part of our Procurement team who are responsible for maintaining all operational procurement requirements, including the negotiation, and placing of material orders and improving supplier performance.
Hampshire Highways is a partnership between Hampshire County Council and Milestone Infrastructure to deliver highway maintenance and improvement works. The contract maintains over 5,300 miles of carriageway, 3,800 miles of footways and 1,800 structures.
**As the Buyer your duties & responsibilities will be**:
- To minimise the cost of materials supplied to Milestone.
- Raising of accurate purchase orders ensuring relevant technical and commercial clauses are included.
- Progressing the provision of materials to meet project programmes and deadlines.
- Obtaining quotations for materials to tight deadlines to meet tender return dates.
- Source, select and negotiate with material suppliers ensuring the contract obtained best value.
- Assist operational and finance teams to ensure invoices can be matched to purchase orders and paid within terms.
- To improve service level agreements with suppliers and internal departments.
- To provide support, guidance and training to operational depot and site teams, as required, to ensure all procurement routes and ordering processes are adhered to.
- Hold performance review meetings with key suppliers
- Implementation of group procedures and supply agreements.
- Support with supply chain management activities, such as, administering of tender documents and processing of new supplier approvals.
**Skills & Knowledge Requirements**
- Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload to meet project deadlines.
- Good communicator - written and verbal
- Computer literate (use of excel and word) and Purchasing systems
- Experience of negotiating with suppliers.
- Some experience of procurement in the construction industry.
- Degree level education or qualified by experience.
- Ideally, membership of professional body (CIPS), or working towards.
