We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Senior Health Play Specialist to join our Play & Youth Services Team. The successful applicant will be joining a supportive and expanding team of play specialists and play workers. As a team we work closely to support each other and provide the best possible service for patients. The trust understands the importance of play input on the patient experience and supports us as a service to achieve high standards.
This role will enable you to have experience of covering a variety of paediatric areas including Children's Outpatients, HDU, Day Surgery, Ambulatory Care and Specialised referrals where necessary.
You will work alongside the Multi-Disciplinary Team to ensure that access to play and therapeutic support is central to the patient’s care pathway. You will work creatively to ensure that long-term patients have access to a wide variety of stimulating play activities and support.
To take on individual referrals for children experiencing difficulty in managing hospital admission/procedures, using evidence-based practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate therapeutic interventions.
To ensure all interventions comply with Trust Equal Opportunities Policy.
To supervise Play Specialist students on placement and student nurses in all areas.
To provide leadership for junior staff, as delegated by supervisor.
To take responsibility for developing projects within given area, to include both Hospital and Community.
To offer flexible working across all the Paediatric areas and when required between the hospital sites.

Applicants are required to hold a recognised Health Play Specialist Qualification.
Clinical/Therapeutic
To plan and implement interventions to achieve therapeutic goals, in collaboration with the referrer, the child and their family.
To use knowledge and understanding of child development to contribute to assessments and overall, long term care planning.
To monitor, evaluate and modify therapeutic interventions in order to measure child’s progress and ensure effectiveness of care plan.

To support infants, children, young people and families or carers under stress and in crisis.
Communication
To establish effective communication, both verbal and written, with all members of the multidisciplinary team in child health and in other departments of the hospital where children are treated.
Engage in effective communication with a variety of ages and those with complex needs.
To provide play based observations to influence and support the overall assessment of the child.
Documentation
To ensure that up to date written records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust policy.

To comply with the NAHPS Code of Professional Conduct and Trust policies.
To respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of patients and their families, and
contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs.
To demonstrate the ability to reflect on ethical issues and to provide guidance to junior staff as necessary.
Leadership, Supervision & Appraisal
To undertake the supervision of junior staff as delegated by the hospital play team leader.
To demonstrate basic leadership skills through the management of designated projects.
Training Staff & Students
To participate in the planning and implementation of the training/education of students and other me
