We develop and supply a range of software products which are used extensively within the rail and other public transport sectors, covering all aspects of operations planning and management including timetabling, resource and rolling stock planning and optimisation, real time performance and control, service recovery, incident management and delay attribution, retail services and delay repay. We also offer a consultancy service made up of highly experienced industry specialists, advising on all elements of rail operational planning and modelling including performance improvement, franchise and concession support, data capture and evaluation, as well as innovative bespoke software development capabilities.

**Group Payroll Assistant**
The Group Payroll Assistant will assist in the day to day running of the payroll function for the division to ensure that all staff (permanent and casual) are paid in line with group procedures and that compliance with relevant employment and payroll legislation are adhered to. You will assist to facilitate the smooth running of the payroll department, contributing and supporting the ongoing development of the payroll function of the group.
While a degree of flexible / home working is expected, the position is linked to our Wetherby office.
**Core Duties**
You are responsible for the assisting with payroll preparation, processing, checking and monitoring of all wage payments, completing reports (both internal and external) and maintaining payroll records for all the businesses within the division and any other group businesses as requested. In order to do this you will specifically:
- Process, checking and monitoring all salary/wage payments and timesheets.
- Ensuring that all staff are paid on time with responsibility to process payment through the bank including payments due to HMRC for PAYE and other deductions processed through the payroll function.
- Assist with managing Sage payroll software and keeping it up to date with upgrades to ensure compliance with the latest legislation.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant payroll legislation and any employment legislation as communicated by the HR department that is relevant.
- Processing all starters and leavers.
- Preparing and posting wage journals for each of the different payrolls prepared.
- Reconciliation of all payroll control accounts.
- Deal with correspondence and enquires from HMRC, DWP and any other external payroll matters.
- Ensuring staff holidays and sickness are dealt with correctly through payroll and liaising with HR department to ensure correct records are maintained.
- To ensure that any pension schemes operated by the group are processed correctly through the payroll and are compliant with pension legislation.
- Be responsible for ensuring that pension contribution are paid over to the pension scheme as due and all reporting to the pension scheme processed.
**Additional Duties**:
- Assist the HR department with staff queries as and when required.
- Keep key Management/Directors up to date on progress against key milestones.
- Assist with OfficeNet database when required, including data input, filing and uploading documents onto OfficeNet etc.
- To liaise with staff and management to ensure that all elements of delivery are achievable
- Keep abreast of developments/legislation which are relevant to the operation of the payroll department
- Carry out any further tasks required within the business as directed by Management.
**Knowledge, Experience and Capabilities**
- Have previous experience of working within a payroll role and will have experience of working within a high volume environment.
- Have good oral and written communication skills, self-motivation, commercial awareness, initiative and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Be able to manage their own work load to ensure all work is completed and deadlines are met.
- Excellent problem solving, analytical, technical, IT and numerical abilities are crucial.
- Ideally will have an accounting/payroll qualification (e.g. AAT).
- Ideally have experience using Sage Payroll.
