**Salary**:£27,055 to £32,934 per annum (Agenda for Change Band 5)

Rethink Mental Illness have been working with Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust since 2015 delivering Step 1 and 2 talking therapies within the prison estate. The mental health teams are an integrated service providing seamless care from PWP through to specialist nursing and psychiatry. The service at Haverigg is a unique service, delivering high quality interventions in a Category D prison.

**How you will make a difference**

This unique opportunity will allow the successful counsellor to help design, build, mould and implement a brand-new model, tailored to the needs of the individuals in their care.

You will work as part of an integrated mental health team within the prison, providing brief counselling for depressive symptoms secondary to a compact life event e.g. bereavement or adjustment in line with IAPT guidelines. This is delivered over a brief model (6-8 session) in either 1:1 or group settings. I support with wider mental health activities, such as service promotion, peer mentors, mental health initiatives and service improvement activities. Role specific supervision will be provided in line with BACP guidelines.

**What we are looking for**

To be considered for the role, you will demonstrate the following:

- Successfully completed a diploma in Counselling (therapeutic) or equivalent the allows access to training programmes and accreditation with a regulating body, e.g., BACP.
- Post-qualification experience in offering and delivering Counselling interventions.
- Evidence of working within a stepped care service with people who have experienced a mental health problem delivering and demonstrating recovery outcomes.
- Knowledge of assessment procedures, screening, referral, record-keeping, and evidence-based brief psychological interventions.
