**Technical Officer - Private Sector Housing**
**Salary: Grade H Pro Rata**
**Part-time - 35 hours per week**

Gateshead Council is seeking to appoint a Technical Officer to join the Private Sector Housing Team. The Team is made up of Environmental Health Officers and Technical Officers and works across a broad range of housing related issues to improve private sector housing conditions, and to tackle housing related crime.

You will be working specifically on ensuring safe housing conditions for refugees and asylum seekers in Gateshead, a safe move on into the private rented sector of refugees granted leave to remain in the UK and on identifying and tackling landlords that use housing to exploit those that are denied permission to remain. The role includes responsive and proactive intelligence led housing inspections, taking housing related enforcement action and supporting those settling into the private rented sector in conjunction with other services and agencies. The role will make use of powers to issue financial penalties to landlords in respect of a range of housing related offences and includes investigating and tackling poor private landlord practices including unlawful eviction, overcrowding and failing to license houses in multiple occupation.

You must be hold a Level 4 Qualification, such as an HNC or equivalent, have experience of housing inspection, carrying out investigations and analysing information, and preparation of case files. You must also have experience of working with vulnerable people and in a mutli-agency way, and have well developed planning, organisational, communication, customer services and problem solving skills and be computer literate.

You will have a full current driving licence or means to mobility support.
