We are looking for an experienced Housekeeper to maintain the highest standard of cleanliness and care for a substantial private property near Burford. It is essential that you have private household experience.

The family live in America and will typically visit the UK 3-4 months of the year, mainly in the Summer but at various other points during the calendar too. They are renowned for having long-term employees who are loyal to them and vice versa.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day cleaning and upkeep of 3 properties, the main large seven-bedroom house and additional guest and staff accommodation. These properties are to be cleaned, cared for, and be tidy and welcoming in readiness for immediate occupation and use by the family and their friends.

As a Housekeeper, you will report to the House Manager (who in turn reports to the Estate Manager) and you will work with a Housekeeper / Cook. You will be responsible for the upkeep of the house and maintain the household to a 5* standard.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

- General tidying up
- Daily cleaning of all areas and rooms
- Hoovering and dusting
- Making beds
- Laundry, ironing and wardrobe management to include care of fine fabrics
- Deep cleaning when appropriate
- A good knowledge and experience in cleaning antiques, silver and crystal

You will be responsible for cleaning of the house, washing, laundry and ironing. You must be skilled in the care of fine linens and clothes, including wardrobe management, and have a working knowledge of floors and surfaces and the suitable products to use. You will be in charge of your cleaning supplies, managing stock levels and ensuring it is all in working order.

You should feel comfortable greeting guests and, when and if the House Manager is absent, be confident with table laying and service to help with lunches and dinners when the family entertains. You may also be asked to help prep meals with the Housekeeper / Cook as and when required. The family typically entertains 2-3 times a week when they are in residence, usually between 8-12 people.

The role is 45 hours a week from Monday to Friday. Though, flexibility is important and there will be an “all hands on deck” attitude when the Principals are in residence. You will be expected to work longer hours during this time, including weekends, though you will always have 1 day off a week.

You must have a clean driving licence.

Competitive salary dependent on experience.
