**POST**: | Support Worker x 2
**LOCATION**: | Cramlington
**JOB PURPOSE**: | To provide 2:1 support for a 12-year-old male child with Autism, a significant learning disability and limited verbal communication and English as a second language
**REF**: | NP/CRAM
**Main Duties**
We are looking for two support workers to work together to provide support to a young man as outlined below. Male workers would be preferred as the young man will require support with personal care.
- Support is required to enable this child to access leisure activities within the local community, including bike rides, swimming and going to the beach and park.
- The child can become very anxious and distressed in busy places, which can affect his behaviour, and he requires a high level of supervision to keep him safe. He has limited awareness of risk and full support will be required with this.
- Support is also required with the child’s limited ability to communicate verbally.
- His first language is Arabic however he has few familiar or contextual words in Arabic or English. He makes use of visual prompts such as PECs and communication books in school and continuation of this would be preferred
**Hours**
- 5 hours per week.
**Rates of pay**
- £10.82 per hour.
- Holiday entitlement is 5.6 weeks per year pro-rata.
- Out of pocket expenses to be paid by employer.
**Person Specification**
The successful applicants must:
- Have experience and a positive understanding about children who have disabilities
- Have a genuine interest in working with children with complex needs
- Have experience of working with children who can display challenging behaviour and be able to respond positively, sensitively and effectively should situations arise
- Have knowledge and experience of working with children who have very limited verbal communication skills
- Have a high degree of initiative
- Be punctual and reliable as the child cannot be left unsupervised
- Be flexible
- Have a happy, positive and caring nature
- Respect confidentiality
