**The Role**:
As an Amano Mentor (Mental Health) you will:
- Provide effective support to students in a higher education setting
- Work with individuals who may face barriers to learning due to a variety of mental health conditions
- Work with your student to identify strategies to help address barriers
- Provide support that is student specific and could include activities such as time management, planning, coping with anxiety and prioritising workload
- Work to enhance your student’s autonomy and to monitor the effectiveness of strategies
- Be responsible for organising sessions with your assigned students
- Offer support on campus, in-home, or remotely as agreed with your student
- Be required to complete Amano administration promptly and accurately
- Follow Amano safeguarding, health and safety, lone working, and professional and personal boundaries policies

**The Skills Required**:
As a Specialist Mentor (Mental Health) you will:
- Have experience of working with students with disabilities and/or people with mental health difficulties
- Be able to assess a student’s needs and with them establish an appropriate Individual Support Plan
- Understand the needs, objectives, and constraints of others.
- Have an understanding of the particular demands of study in higher education
- Be able to clearly assess when a referral or ‘signpost’ to another service is required
- Have the ability to plan, prioritise and organise your own workload
- Have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Have good competency in using mobile IT
- Be proactive in maintaining your CPD.
**Essential Qualifications and Training**:
You will be educated to degree level and must have membership of (at least) one of the following organisations:
- Chartered British Psychological Society (BPS) member or IAPT register
- Graduate BPS member and PG qualification in Psychology/mental heath
- Association of Child Psychotherapists
- British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) accreditation
- British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) individual or MBACP
- British Psychoanalytic Council Member
- Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA) accredited member
- FDAP National Counsellor Accreditation Certificate (NCAC)
- General Medical Council - Psychiatry
- Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) - Arts therapist/occupational therapist/ practitioner psychologist/social worker in England
- Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) accredited member
- Nursing and Midwifery council (NMC) - mental health nurse/community mental health nurse/ psychiatric nurse
- Social worker body for Scotland SSSC/Wales CCWales/NI (NISCC)
- UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) full clinical individual member
- University Mental Health Advisors Network (UMHAN) Member.
