**Club Steward**
We are looking for a talented, lively, and well-presented individual to lead our staff team and run the operations. **The Strangers Club** is a private membership Club, founded in 1927 and located in Elm Hill Norwich. We operate a day-time dining restaurant and bar 12 noon to
3.00pm with the club being open to members from 9am to 5pm and a small programme of events during the year in the evenings or at weekends.

**Person Specification**
- This person is a highly **self-motivated **individual.
- Experience in hospitality delivery and management is preferred.
- Has a very friendly attitude both in person and in written and verbal communication.
- Well-presented and premium service driven.
- Positive outlook which is applied to achieve goals.
- This person’s glass is always ‘half full,’ and they are willing to assist the Directors of the Club to develop the wider business.
- Is happy to work in a traditional and important historic part of Norwich.
- Have staff management skills.
- Have or is willing to gain a licensed Trade personal license holder qualification. He/she will be the designated person for the Club’s premises alcohol licence.
**Principal Functions of the Job**
- To be the line manager of all the Strangers Club staff (Front of house 3 and kitchen 2)
- To have responsibility for the recruitment of staff when needed in consultation with the
Management Committee Chairman.
- To manage the bar and dining room, with responsibility for the stock and cellar.
- To manage the waiting staff rota and to be prepared to work as a waiter/server when needed.
- To work closely with the Chef and kitchen staff to ensure tight cost control and a range of menus.
- To be able to cover for the Chef when needed on a short-term basis and to recruit casual staff to cover holidays and illness.
Please note that as a private members club, the Strangers Club is extremely proud of the level of personal service provided to its members. The club expects the Club Steward to adhere to a high level of service in-keeping with the style of the Club. Our front of house staff gets to know all our members by name as well as their personal preferences.
**Working Hours**
We are looking for someone to normally work 30 hours per week and to manage the staff both front of house and Kitchen to ensure the best possible service with a tight control of staff hours.
As the leader of the staff team, you would work as part of the shift patterns within our normal working hours from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Additionally, there will on occasions be events organised by the Club and some private events organised in the evenings and on occasion weekends. A system of time of in lieu is in operation for up to two such events per month. Additional events will be paid at the Salary rate.
**Annual Leave**
The annual leave year runs from the 1st of January to the 31st of December. 20 days paid leave is given in addition to the eight Public Holidays. New Years Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday,
May Day, Late May bank Holiday, August Bank Holiday Christmas Day, and Boxing Day.
The Club is closed between Christmas day and New Years Day and the time between without public holidays is directed holiday, while we are closed and must be taken into consideration when arranging holiday dates. Holidays not taken in one year cannot be carried over.
**Salary**
The starting salary for this post is **£28000 pa** **(pro-rata to the number of hours worked)**
which will be reviewed at the end of the first year. All staff are included in our NEST workplace pension scheme.
**Main Responsibilities**:
- Bar:_
- To prepare the bar each day according to the Club programme and to control and account for all stocks in the bar.
- At all times to arrange for Members’ orders to be taken promptly, served professionally, and billed accordingly.
- To be responsible for the cleanliness, checking, controlling, and accounting of all bar utensils and equipment.
- Dining Room:_
- To ensure the dining rooms are prepared (Presidents, main and upstairs when used) for meals including Luncheon and functions as appropriate to the Club programme. To ensure the team are paying particular attention to all aspects of table presentation and tableware as well as the cleanliness of the dining rooms and utensils.
- At lunch times to arrange for Members’ meal orders to be taken promptly, served professionally, and billed accordingly.
- Cleaning:_
- To ensure that the most appropriate cleaning methods and materials are used in the most economical manner.
- To ensure the whole of the club premises are cleaned on a regular basis and ready for service.
