An exciting opportunity has arisen at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust for an enthusiastic, qualified, and experienced Clinical Scientist / GI Physiologist to join the rapidly expanding Neurogastroenterology Team, on a part-time basis (21hrs/wk)to provide specialist care and gastrointestinal diagnostic services within the Trust.
This new position is designed to strengthen and support the Tertiary Neurogastroenterology clinical service. The service receives referrals from all over the United Kingdom and provides motility diagnostics for patients across the North West. The unit is a nationally accredited training centre for the Health Education England Scientist Training Programme in GI physiology and we have trainee GI physiologists in post, at different stages of training.
Particular strengths of the unit include the range of clinical tests, a strong focus on clinical interpretation of physiological tests, the range of clinical services and complimentary services all within a single unit. There is a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary team working and quality improvement. As well as being a tertiary referral centre for neurogastroenterology and motility, there is a tertiary pelvic floor colorectal surgical unit with expertise in advanced treatments including specialist pelvic floor physiotherapy, rectal irrigation, and neuromodulation, and access to endoanal ultrasound.
The post holder will undertake a variety of clinical measurement procedures including high-resolution oesophageal manometry, ambulatory oesophageal pH and impedance monitoring, Rumination studies, BRAVO pH monitoring, high resolution anorectal manometry, hydrogen / methane breath testing, transit studies and behavioural therapy interventions.
