An exciting opportunity has arisen to work at an historic private estate in Central London. The three-acre grounds are set amongst buildings dating from 1422 and a stone’s throw from the Royal Courts of Justice on Fleet Street.

We are seeking an enthusiastic gardener with a recognised horticultural qualification at Level 2 or above or at least two years of practical experience. We are looking for someone with a passion for plants and a strong work ethic. Who is physically fit and practically minded as this is a hands-on gardening position. You must be able to work collaboratively as part of a team but also be able to work unsupervised. You will be joining a small hard-working team of likeminded people to help maintain this tranquil oasis garden to a high horticultural standard.

**Main duties**:

- Maintaining the Inn’s garden, including flower borders, trees, shrubs, lawns and containers, to a high horticultural standard.
- Assisting with the creative development of the garden, helping to monitor and analyse plant displays and contributing ideas and solutions.
- Contributing to the continual aim to be more sustainable and increase biodiversity across the gardens.
- Garden maintenance tasks, either under direction or without supervision, including weeding, planting, dead-heading, staking, pruning, hedge-cutting, watering, mulching and leaf-collecting.
- Raising plants in our greenhouse and cold frames.
- Maintaining our Edible Garden, helping us enhance and develop the provision of crops to the chefs in our kitchens.
- Using and maintaining tools and machinery, in a competent and safe manner, following Health and Safety guidelines and in accordance with instructions issued by the Head Gardener. This includes a compact tractor, leaf blowers and hedgecutters.
- Maintaining our meadow area, including using hand scythes or a power scythe.
- Working with our garden volunteers, sharing horticultural skills and knowledge when possible.
- To use good observation and problem-solving skills to react to plant health problems such as pest and diseases.
