A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Procurement Head to work for USS, one of the largest private pension schemes in the UK.
**The role**
Provide oversight and leadership for all Procurement activity including sourcing, onboarding, supplier management and P2P, to create sustainable supply relationships and sourcing strategies that provide the best outcomes for USS with regard to value for money,risk management and continuous improvement.
**Key responsibilities**
- Analyse supplier expenditure, identify and implement strategies for improving value (including savings/rationalisation opportunities) through the development of sourcing plans and supplier base management plans in conjunction with the appropriate businessareas.
- Provide partnering and guidance to business areas, to support their direct dealings with suppliers in commercial/pricing negotiations, ongoing value benchmarking, procurement advice (including input to ITTs/RFPs), and making timely plans for exit/replacement.For strategic/ large supplier relationships or for complex services direct procurement team engagement will be required.
- Monitor key supplier relationships to ensure business requirements can be consistently fulfilled and to formulate mitigation plans where risks/ issues are identified.
- Develop and maintain central policies, procedures, controls and guidance for improving the procurement and management of suppliers across business areas. Encourage adoption of these and assess areas for improvement through regular collaboration with businessareas
- Reporting of Procurement activity to business heads including process compliance / exceptions in order to maintain and improve the control framework and to highlight opportunities for efficiencies.
- Identify, initiate and deliver improvements to expenditure and purchase controls partnering with the Finance Team.
- Utilise and exploit business wide technologies and tools to improve efficiency and effectiveness of Procurement activities.
- Promote ethical procurement practices across the organisation.
- Manage, mentor and develop Procurement team to deliver against the function objectives.
**Your experience**
- Demonstrable experience in a senior procurement role
- MCIPS or similar qualification preferred.
- Leads by example, is resilient and able to deal with complex challenges.
- Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to constructively challenge stakeholders and who seeks to understand and clarify commercial implications of supplier relationships.
- Ability to influence and build collaborative relationships at all levels internally and with external advisors / suppliers.
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to consistently secure the most advantageous outcomes for USS.
- A good understanding of value for money principles and excellence through continuous improvement.
- High level of pragmatism and creativity when problem solving.
- A strong communicator, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to manage a team, developing and coaching others.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to support key messages and to underpin strategic plans.
Although based in Liverpool, this role would be expected to travel to our London office on a monthly basis
