**ABOUT ERSOU**

ERSOU is the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit, that oversees and delivers a regional level response to Serious and Organised Crime, and Counter Terrorism Policing for the Forces in the Eastern Region. ERSOU is made up of both Officers and Police Staff from across the entire region, and works closely with the 7 Forces and National Partners. The departments are unique, in that they are able to offer opportunities to work and develop individuals professionally in specialist areas, often delivering capabilities that are provided by local forces.

This role is in the ROCU which provides specialist capabilities to tackle the increasingly complex threat posed by organised crime, which ranges from child sexual exploitation, modern slavery, county drugs lines, cybercrime and economic crime - and we’re currently looking for people to join us.

**THE ROLE**

As an experienced Accredited Financial Investigator you will be responsible for supporting the Regional Anti-Corruption Intelligence & Investigation Unit using the full range of financial investigation powers, skills, techniques available to you to contribute to the identification, disruption and prosecution of corrupt officers and staff, corruptors and linked organised criminals across the region.

This role is deemed agile and there is some flexibility on working arrangements including working form home.

**Experience & Qualifications**:
Full NCA accreditation as a Financial Investigator under parts 2, 5 and 8 of POCA is essential. Additional section 47, AFO and Listed Asset accreditations are desirable.

Detailed understanding of money laundering legislation and conducting money laundering investigations as well as a good knowledge of the processes surrounding criminal investigations and asset recovery and the relevant law including POCA, PACE, CPIA.

Demonstrable experience of conducting and/or supporting intelligence lead investigations into Serious Organised Crime.

Additional investigative qualifications are desirable.

**Key Responsibilities**:
Use FI powers and techniques to support the development of intelligence to identify corrupt officers and staff, corruptors and linked organised criminals across the region, giving due consideration to threat, risk, harm and opportunity.

Conduct dynamic investigations in order to assess the value and extent of an individual’s benefit from criminal conduct with a view to recovering any identified assets using the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and other appropriate legislation.

Provide specialist support, advice and assistance to constituent forces and other agencies in the investigation of crime and corruption, where specialist financial investigation is required.

Prepare and maintain a detailed schedule of material gathered in the course of an investigation in order that an appropriate schedule of exhibits/unused material can be provided in accordance with the requirements of the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act.

To maintain liaison and build partnerships within the Eastern Region, including constituent forces, CPS, HMCTS, and other relevant agencies / institutions. To liaise with victims of crime in relation to compensation cases, ensuring that they are kept up to date and adequately recompensed where appropriate.

Process NCA disclosures relating to police officers and staff, carrying out the appropriate enquiries and investigations in order to identify and recommend possible courses of operational activity and the development of intelligence packages.

Maintain an up to date working knowledge of all the appropriate legislation and case law to maintain the status as a credible professional witness. Progress and maintain personal professional development including retention of accreditation status via continuous professional development (CPD) activities and submissions of evidence as required by the NCA.

Obtain and maintain designated PACE powers under s.38 Police Reform Act 2002.

To work towards ‘Mentor’ status supporting staff through the NCA accreditation process.

**Personal Qualities & Attributes**:
As the RACIU’s dedicated Financial Investigator you will be the advisor for all civil and criminal financial investigation matters in the unit and the wider regional anti-corruption community.
