**Job Title: Casual out of hours Caretaker**

**Line Manager: Site Manager**

**Salary Scale: Band 1 (Points 1-3) £20,258 to £20,812 full time equivalent**

**Hours: As required but generally 8.30am to 5pm Saturdays and some evenings term time only**

**Main Purpose of the Job**:
To support the full-time site team with cover on weekend and evenings for our external hires. To ensure that the site offers a safe, clean, and pleasant environment conducive to education and extended services. Working with the Site Manager to establish, maintain, manage and develop a high-quality site, cleaning after hire, maintaining a secure site and carrying out general maintenance tasks.

**Key responsibilities**
- Ensure the opening and/or securing of the site at the start and end of the day and ensuring that the alarm is set on leaving and all doors and windows are secured. When leaving personnel on site ensure that they have the means to secure the site.
- Cleaning and emptying of bins after external hires.
- Carry out basic maintenance when required as directed by the Site Manager.
- To report major faults to the Site Manager and/or Business Manager.
- Heating of the site is to be monitored and maintained at the correct temperature throughout the year. Any faults with the heating system should be reported to the Site Manager.
- Ensure that the operation of the security alarm system is regularly tested and is in working and report any faults immediately to the Site Manager.
- Caretakers who are fire warden trained will evacuate all personnel and visitors from the building as quickly as possible in the event of a fire test, drill or evacuation as per fire safety regulations.
- Vigilance should be shown at all times whilst on duty. Caretakers should make themselves known to visitors and all unknown personnel on site should be questioned as to why they are on the premises. ID badges and staff uniform should be worn to aid recognition and must be worn at all times.

**Health and Safety**

All employees are responsible for:

- Compliance with safety rules and procedures as laid down in their area of activity. (i.e catering and hospitality, use of trays, trolley)
- Ensuring that they take reasonable care of their own health and safety and hence avoid injury to themselves and to others by act or omission whilst at work.
- Using protective clothing or equipment as may be provided.
- Reporting promptly all sickness, accidents, unsafe working conditions or practices and dangerous occurrences of which they are aware.
- Co-operating with the Headteacher in the fulfilment of the objectives of the school Health and Safety Policies.
- To report promptly to the Headteacher any issues which have/may lead to a breach of regulations

**The school**
- Ensure that all school policies are adhered to and consistently implemented
- Ensure all areas of the school are maintained to a very high standard
- To carry out duties as required by the School or Headteacher
- To attend and support at evening events where requested e.g. Open evening, Entrants evening, Awards evening
- To understand the importance of safeguarding and adhere to and upload our Safeguarding Policy and Procedures

**Caretaker Person specification**
Specific skills, experience and knowledge

1. Qualifications/Training etc.
- Willingness to undertake appropriate training

2. Experience
- Previous experience in a cleaning and or maintenance role

3. Knowledge
- Knowledge of health & safety protocols
- Knowledge/appreciation of premises and contents, security and the operation of fire and security alarms
- Knowledge of cleaning processes and regimes

4. Skills & Abilities
- Ability to form, develop and sustain good working relationships with colleagues
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Be able to relate well to staff and young people
- Work in a tidy and safe way when the building is in use

- Previous training or role in basic maintenance or cleaning

**Job Types**: Part-time, Zero hours contract
Part-time hours: 10-15 per week

**Salary**: £20,258.00-£20,812.00 per year
