**Refuge Support Bank Staff (Out of Hours, Female, Northampton-based)**

**Salary £13.57 per hour (sleep in rate midnight to 8am £6.78)**

NDAS provides refuge to victims of domestic abuse. One of our Northampton based refuges also accepts women who are also living with the effects of addiction to drugs and/or alcohol. This refuge is operated 24 hours and this role is as a member of our Bank Staff team to cover our regular teams annual leave and sickness.

There is no guarantee of set hours each week.

The shifts to cover staff sickness and annual leave are part of a 4 week rolling rota, as detailed below:
Week 1: Wednesday 16:30 - 08:00; Thursday 16:30 - 08:00

Week 2: Friday 16:30 - 08:00; Saturday 19:30 - 10:00; Sunday 19:30 - 08:00

Week 3: Saturday 08:00 - 20:00; Sunday 10:00 - 20:00

Week 4: Monday 16:30 - 08:00; Tuesday 16:30 - 08:00
- 2 years’ experience of working in a supportive role with vulnerable families and/or children, or equivalent
- Clear understanding and awareness of domestic abuse and the impact on victims
- Clear understanding of alcohol and drug addiction issues
- Excellent communication and report writing skills
- Proficient IT skills
- **Current driving licence and access to vehicle**.

Any applicant must complete an enhanced DBS check and have two references returned prior to confirmation of appointment. **This role is** **open to women only (exempt under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9, Part 1).**

**Purpose of Post**:

- Offer advice and support to all NDAS refuge residents outside office hours in the substance misuse and other refuges across the county.
- Sleeping in refuge overnight.
- Delivering advice and information related to domestic abuse on advice line.
- Maintaining computerised case notes in accordance with organisational policy.
- Conducting welfare check visits to new clients in all refuges across the county in the evenings and on weekends.

**Main areas of responsibility**:
**Resident Support**

To share responsibility with the day staff team for the evening, weekend and overnight operations of all refuges and welfare of service users, dealing with issues as and when they arise, working on own initiative.

To work with other staff and service users to ensure the efficient and effective running of the refuge and undertake the following duties as necessary:

- Attend hand-over meetings with staff from the previous and next shift.
- Maintain health and safety standards.
- Report repairs of buildings, furniture, and fittings if safety is an issue.
- Maintain security of the refuge and service users by monitoring CCTV and undertaking regular security checks.
- Monitor cleanliness of refuge through overseeing household chore duties.
- Monitor service user compliance with the Refuge rules & regulations and take appropriate actions in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Maintain administrative & recording systems, including computerised case management system.
- Provide high quality telephone support to callers out of hours through emotional support and practical information; assess risk and give appropriate safety planning advice; give advice to professionals who call; monitor calls and record information on the case management system.
- Complete welfare checks for residents across Refuges as required.
- Liaise with emergency services out of hours to ensure immediate safeguarding mitigations are put in place.
- Manage crisis situations at any refuges overnight, seeking on call manager support if required, and providing a detailed handover to the relevant DAS and Team Leader on the next working day.

**General**
- Attend staff meetings as required, sharing updates and disseminating information.
- Promote a positive image of NDAS, representing the organisation to increase professional and public awareness of the organisations.
- Be aware of the potential for racial and/or other forms of harassment or discrimination within the refuges and the organisation, and work positively to challenge any such behaviour, and to comply with NDAS diversity & equality policy in all areas of work.
- Ensure equal opportunities for all service users are adhered to within the refuge, challenge any unacceptable behaviour that may cause offence or distress to other service users. and promote these principles amongst colleagues, service users, and other members of the community.
- Participate in formal work reviews/supervision as agreed with the Team Leader and the Senior Management Team, which may be in office hours.
- Undertake any other duties, which may reasonably be required by the Team Leader or Senior Management Team.
