This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Ecologist to work within the Fisheries operations team based in Thames Area.- As a Fisheries Technical Officer, you will have a strong foundation in fisheries science and practical fisheries management. Excellent communication skills and experience of working with a wide range of people is essential. You will be expected to deliver environmental outcomes and build strong relationships, both within the team and with internal and external stakeholders. You will be well-organised and have the confidence to work independently and on your own initiative.
- In addition to this you will take a lead on water resources lead work for the team, working closely with and supporting the team technical specialist in delivering a wide range of related outcomes.
- The role has a strong area incident response element. There is a need to work flexibly and take part in the fisheries duty officer out of hours roster.

Experience/skills required
- Essential:
- Good understanding of practical fisheries management techniques
- Good general fish identification
- Ability to analyse and interpret data
- Self-motivated, acting independently with a pro-active approach
- Strong influencing skills with experience of engaging key stakeholders
- Confident communicator
- Excellent time management skills with an ability to manage an unpredictable workload and balance conflicting needs and priorities.
- Full driving licence

Advantageous:
- Knowledge of still water and river conservation and legislation relating to designated sites
- An understanding of fisheries legislation and law
- Experience of effective partnership working
- Working knowledge of fish passage and hydropower
- Knowledge of water industry process
- Understanding river processes and hydrology
- Knowledge of Flood Risk Activity Permitting process

- This role is office based but with a strong operational element. (Farnham) though currently the team are largely working from home. The role involves travel across the area and work in the field, and therefore a full driving licence is required.
