Brief

Naval Architecture Technical Authority needed for a leading multinational defence organisation based in the Portsmouth area who are looking to employ an experienced Naval Architectures Technical Authority that takes pride in their work.

The successful Naval Architecture Technical Authority would desirably be educated to degree level, or equivalent professional/vocational qualification.

What the role of the Naval Architecture Technical Authority entails:
Some of the main duties of the Naval Architectures Technical Authority will include:

- Lead and prioritise the Naval Architecture & Structures engineers across all warship classes in Portsmouth Naval Base.
- Manage design changes through the design lifecycle from requirements capture and setting through to final inspection and acceptance at ship.
- Ensure that engineering governance is maintained.
- Support the 'safe to operate' claim through understanding of material state and provision of supporting evidence to the Authority.
- Provide professional mentoring and support personal development of Naval Architects within the Asset Management organisation.
- Ensure that appropriate resource planning is maintained across all QEC, T45, T23 and Hunt by forecasting and allocating resource as required.

What experience you need to be the successful Naval Architecture Technical Authority:

- Qualified to degree level, or equivalent, in Naval Architecture or Maritime Ship Structures Engineering or a related discipline preferably with experience in the marine/naval industry.
- Member of a relevant professional body and registered as a Chartered Engineer (CEng), or be able to demonstrate that they have been working at the level of a Chartered Engineer for some period of time.
- Recognised as an Expert within the Naval Architecture & Structures field with an in-depth understanding and experience in structural design & repair, stability and escape & evacuation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Have demonstrable experience of taking responsibility for safety decisions using sound safety management processes/tools.

**Ideal**:

- Experience in the design/support of seamanship equipment and ship outfit.
- Have a good understanding of design / safety management tools and processes.
- A good understanding of Naval Authority Certification.
