We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and hardworking doctor to join our Respiratory Medicine Department as Junior Specialty doctor - Higher at MMUH, City Campus and Sandwell Campus. The post will be a fixed term post for a period of 1 year. The post would be at aimed at junior grade ST 3 + level (i.e. 3/4 years post qualification/post foundation level) and whilst not approved training posts we would mirror the training opportunities to those given to training post holders.
The JSD Higher post will allow you to consolidate your experience in a supportive environment, giving you wide ranging clinical exposure and training in a progressive Trust that has won numerous national and local awards. We would be keen to work with successful applicants and help you continue to build your Respiratory Medicine Career. We envisage that the JSD Higher the post holder would have completed/working towards completion of full MRCP.
The successful post holder would be working in a team of 10 middle grade doctors, 13 consultants, junior doctors, specialist nurses, lung physiologists and physiotherapists to look after respiratory patients in MMUH. Participation in general medical on call rota is highly desirable.
Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated care organisation with a budget of approximately £600 million and over 7,000 staff. Diversity and social care is at the core of what we do as the Trust provides Community and Acute Services to over half a million people in an urban centre that demands massive regeneration and has substantial premature mortality.
Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), opened in October 2024 and provides care to our local population from first class, purpose-built premises. The development of the new hospital will play an important role in the regeneration of the wider area and in improving the lives of local people and reducing health inequalities.
**We have three newly emerging strategic objectives**:
Our People - to cultivate and sustain happy, productive and engaged staff
Our Patients - to be good or outstanding in everything we do
Our Population - to work seamlessly with our partners to improve lives
The respiratory inpatients are looked after at Respiratory Hub at MMUH. There are 13 consultants based at MMUH who work on the wards in turns for 2 weeks in a row as COW (Consultant of the week). There is also a dedicated consultant rota for Sandwell cover which is mostly telephone advice in conjunction with SPR on site. There is no specified respiratory bed base at Sandwell hospital and all patients requiring intervention, long stay are at MMUH.
There are 4 SPRs and 6 Trust middle grade specialty doctors who provide cover on wards at MMUH. The respiratory rota is split into predominantly ward weeks and non-ward weeks for SPRS. They will carry out clinics, procedure lists and Lung Cancer MDT during their clinic week and cover ward, referrals and in patient procedures during ward week.
