Staff Information Developer

**Job Overview**:

Does software technology excite you? To help our users achieve their goals, we are looking for a great writer who has hands-on experience of working in a software development environment.

We have an opportunity for you to join a team of information developers working with innovative software technology in Arm's Development Solutions Group. Working closely with Arm's product development and support teams, we create user-focussed content for tools that compile, debug, model, and optimise software. We do this by creating networks with product teams and with our own investigations by experimenting with and using the tools.

This is a 12 month Fixed-Term contract

**Technical Communications at Arm**:
You will be part of a larger collaborative community who can guide and advise; often you'll work together creating and delivering content for a large project.

As part of the wider Sales and Partner Enablement Group, our Technical Communications team produces the technical content for Arm's products. This content can include user documentation, white papers, knowledge-base articles, tutorials, and multimedia. Technical Communications has a strong presence in all of Arm's global design centres. We come from a diverse set of backgrounds and range from graduates to highly-experienced writers. As a community, we guide, encourage, and share knowledge with each other.

**Responsibilities**:

- Collaborating on content development activities for one or more software products.
- Identifying user needs to build and improve content which helps our customers and partners reach their goals.
- Collaborating extensively with domain experts in software engineering, project/product management, support, and other teams to identify and address information gaps.
- Improving the clarity and consistency of content aimed at a global audience.
- You will look for chances to create efficiences with tooling and content auto-generation.

**Your background**:
You should have a good degree or post-graduate qualification in a related area. For example:

- Computer science, physics, maths, or software engineering
- English or comparative linguistics

If you don't have a degree in one of these areas but have substantial experience in Technical Communications or Information Development then we'd like to hear from you. If you have experience of crafting technical content for a C, C++, or another command line tool, or a curiosity about embedded systems, or skills related to this area, then we'd really encourage you to apply. The skill we most value is your ability to learn and grow within the role and your commitment to use this knowledge to help your colleagues.

**Required skills and experience**:

- Extensive experience in a technical writing role for software products, with a record of creating content for global audiences.
- You are used to working with Engineering teams in an agile environment and have a solid grasp of the software development lifecycle.
- Flexible and pragmatic in approach. Creative, dynamic, and insightful with strong problem-solving skills.
- A working understanding of the latest tools and systems used to produce content - such as text editors, version control, review, and ticketing systems. (Markdown, rST, Git, Gerrit, Confluence, Jira etc.)
- You are a methodical, inquisitive, and friendly team mate.
- You are not afraid to use the software you are writing about and break it to understand how things work (or do not work) - and feedback to the relevant teams so improvements can be made to the product.
