I have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Data protection Officer to join us. This is a key role in the Charity where you will act as the Charity's focal point for data protection activities and foster a good data protection culture within the organisation.You will be responsible for educating colleagues about data compliance, training colleagues who are involved in processing data, and carrying out regular security audits. Acting as the main point of contact between StepChange and the relevant data protectionauthorities.
**What you will be doing**
**Other responsibilities include**:

- Inform and advise the Charity and its managers and employees of their obligations under the UKGDPR, DPA 2018 and other applicable data protection legislation
- Monitor compliance with the UKGDPR and other applicable data protection legislation and with the Charities data protection policies, including:

- Advising on assigning responsibilities within the Charity
- Awareness raising
- Training colleagues
- Conducting compliance audits
- Provide advice, where requested, as regards data protection impact assessments (DPIA's) and monitor their performance
- To contribute to the development and maintenance of all the Charity's data protection policies, procedures and processes
- in relation to the protection of personal data.
- Co-operate with the Information Commission's Office (ICO), as authority to the Charity.
- Develop and manage the Charity's data protection and data privacy strategy in the UK and where applicable overseas

**What we want from you**
- an understanding of how to build, implement and manage data protection programmes is essential.
- must have expertise in national and European data protection law, including an in-depth knowledge of the GDPR.
- must also be capable of gaining reasonable understanding of what technical and organisational measures the charity has in place and be familiar with information technologies and data security.
- Evidential experience working in data protection compliance or a related field
- Expertise in UK data protection laws and practices including an in-depth understanding of the GDPR
- Experience within a legal, audit and/or risk function department
- Strong project management skills
