Job Title**:Reservist Healthcare Assistant**

**Job Purpose**

To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

**Operational**

The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
1. Undertake new patient health checks

2. Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes

3. Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately

4. Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

5. Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required

6. Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics

7. Carry out BMI checks as directed

8. Act as a chaperone as required

9. When trained, administer flu vaccinations, B12 injections etc.

10. Carry out ECGs as requested

11. Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

12. Provide support during minor operations as required

13. Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

14. Manage clinical consumable stock including ordering and rotation

15. Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance

16. Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

17. Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

**General Accountabilities**

- Creating a good working relationship with the Host Employer team and Line Manager.
- Maintaining an upbeat and calm demeanour, remaining professional at all times.

- Willingly taking on other duties as directed by the Host Organisations Management Team.
