**Job Overview**:
The role of a Waste Operative is crucial, demanding a wide range of skills to meet both operational and environmental goals. They are fundamental to protecting public health, preserving the environment, and guaranteeing the efficient handling of waste.

**Main Duties**

**Efficient Waste Collection and Transportation**
- This involves the timely and effective collection of waste from various sources.
- Safe transportation of waste to designated processing or disposal sites.
- Operating an assigned vehicle weighing up to 7.5 tonnes, including lorries, transporters or trucks.
- Ensuring that loads are safe and properly secured.
- Safely operating a forklift to move materials around, including loading and unloading trucks, stacking pallets, transporting goods to designated storage areas, and ensuring the integrity of the transported items while adhering to all Safety Regulations and Procedures.

**Waste Segregation and Recycling**
- Maximising the amount of waste that can be diverted from landfills.
- Ensuring that recyclable materials are processed according to regulations.

**Maintaining Public Health and Hygiene**
- Preventing the spread of contamination through proper waste handling.
- Keeping public spaces clean and free from waste accumulation.

**Adherence to Health and Safety Regulations**
- Following strict safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Operating equipment and vehicles safely.

**Environmental Protection**
- Minimising the environmental impact of waste disposal.
- Promoting and supporting waste reduction and recycling initiatives.
- Contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.

**Customer Service**
- Interacting with the public in a polite and professional manner.
- Providing information and assistance regarding Waste Management practices.
- Addressing customer concerns and complaints.

**Compliance with Regulations**
- Adhering to Waste Management Regulations.
- Properly documenting waste collection and disposal activities.

**What we are looking for**:

- Previous experience in Waste Management.
- Knowledge of Waste Segregation and Recycling Procedures.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and prolonged standing.
- Capability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to operate equipment and machinery safely (for example, bin lifts, compactor, baler).
- Understanding of Health and Safety principles, adhering to safety regulations and wearing appropriate PPE.
- Ability to identify and report potential hazards.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal.

**Essential Skills**
- Valid driving license.
- LGV 7.5 tonne driver with certificates for five LGV CPC units and digital tacho graph.
- Qualified Forklift Truck Operator.
- Safety Health and Environmental Awareness SHEA Waste and Resource Management Qualification (or equivalent).
- Qualified in First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work.
