RSR Public Safety are currently recruiting for a **Fit to Practice Investigator** for an independent statutory body paying £43,650.18 per annum.

**Job Summary**:
The Fitness to Practise Investigators are key members of the Fitness to Practise Directorate and they have a key role to play in carrying out Fitness to Practise work, which is efficient and effective for patients and registrants. You will have responsibility for undertaking the investigatory / preparatory work in respect of the cases within your caseload for the Council’s complex cases.

This is a great opportunity to work in a small national regulatory body and develop skills and experience across a wide-range of competencies.

**Location**: Kennington, London (hybrid 1 or 2 days per week)

**Main duties and responsibilities**
- To draft case plans for new cases documenting key evidence to be obtained as part of the investigation
- To carry out all actions required to investigate and gather evidence on new complaints as identified in the case plan, updating at all material stages.
- Take witness statements from the complainant and other witnesses, as required.
- To draft allegations from the evidence obtained during the course of the investigation
- Instruct Counsel and Expert Opinion, as required
- Identify and arrange further investigation work where required
- Actively manage cases and in a timely manner progressing the case to an Investigating Committee meeting with standard KPI targets and having regard to expenditure - keeping a log of costs for all cases
- Ensure prompt and accurate response to communications with other parties, meeting service standards
- Assist in the preparation of cases for presentation before the GCC’s statutory FtP Committees.
- Research ad hoc legal issues on casework & non-casework issues affecting the operation of the Fitness to Practise Directorate
- Provide case information for data analysis. Undertake a review of own cases determined, identifying the main ‘lessons learned’ for discussing internally with a view to communicating themes externally as appropriate
- Contributing effectively to discussions at internal and external meetings. Contribute to the development of service improvements through participation in team meetings and other groups
- Assist with the setting, monitoring and evaluating casework quality standards including sharing best practice

- Highly developed ability to pay close attention to detail and quality assure own and other’s work
- Well-developed oral communication skills, to deal effectively, efficiently and appropriately with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Sound judgment and decision-making
- Ability to think and act strategically, identify policy ideas or new initiatives and develop practical innovative and creative solutions to the management of strategic and operational issues and problems
- Ability to research, analyse, summarise and report on information in a systematic and coherent way; and to make recommendations for appropriate policy responses supported by clear arguments and evidence
- Ability to handle complex and sensitive information with skill and diplomacy
- Ability to work on own initiative and without close supervision and take personal responsibility for specific projects
- Well-developed ability to work with others as part of a team, giving support when required
- Highly developed organisational skills and the ability to multi task on a variety of on-going projects and/or activities.
- Excellent IT skills
- Ability to travel in the UK, as required

**Education, knowledge and experience**
- Law Degree or relevant casework experience, preferably in regulatory law
- Proven experience of managing complex investigations
- Proven experience of providing appropriate advice regarding regulatory investigations
- Experience that demonstrates the capability to understand the regulatory environment and legal frameworks.
- Experience of working in a politically sensitive environment and/or dealt with high profile sensitive issues
- An understanding of the professional regulation framework and fitness to practise issues
