Job description

**Main Purpose of Role**
- The Single Point of Contact Officer (SPoC) is an accredited individual (once training has been provided & passed) who facilitates the lawful acquisition of communications data primarily from telephone/internet/postal operators, in response to crime, criminal activity and emergency incidents.
- Promote efficiency and good practice in ensuring only practical and lawful requirements for communications data are undertaken. The SPoC provides a “guardian and gatekeeper” function ensuring that Nottinghamshire Police act in an informed and lawful manner
- To advise and assist officers and relevant personnel in all aspects of investigations relating to communications data and to ensure that all matters comply with the most current legislation.

**Key Skills & Experience Required**

Must have an awareness of relevant current legislation, procedures and guidelines with particular emphasis on Investigatory Powers Act 2016, The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, The Human Rights Act 1998 and Data Protection Act 1998 but also Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1986, Criminal Procedures and Investigation Act 1996.

Must be a person of integrity, able to deal with a variety of issues in an environment that demands confidentiality and able to work with minimum supervision.

Must be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders on complex matters to ensure successful presentation of evidence.

Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and multi task.

Must be able to show an understanding of, and an interest in developments of emerging concepts.

Must be able to examine and analyse information to arrive at considered and appropriate decisions.

Must be willing to be part of an ‘out of hours’ formalised ‘on call’ rota and have a flexible approach to working hours. This will require shift working.

Must be willing to attend and successfully complete Accredited Course (currently a residential course that we require minimum of 5 days stay at college of policing facility) within 6 months of commencement.
