Charity Retail Sales Assistant

**Summary of role**

To contribute towards maximising shop sales and profits as well as the successful day to day running of the shop. To deputise for the Shop Manager and Assistant Manager in their absence. To represent The Rainbow Centre in a professional manner reflecting our core values and beliefs.

**Key responsibilities**

**Sales**:

- Achieve maximum sales at all times.
- Ensure that the high standard of service to customers that is expected by The Rainbow Centre is maintained at all times.
- Actively support any fundraising promotions as directed by the Centre or the Head of Retail
- Implement promotions in the shop as directed by the Centre or the Head of Retail.

**Shop Appearance**:

- Maintain a high standard of presentation, both in windows, interior of shop and back of house.
- Achieve and maintain high standards of housekeeping, organisation and cleanliness throughout the shop premises.

**Stock**:

- Actively encourage the public to donate saleable stock.
- Ensure there is adequate stock available on the shop floor at all times.
- The role will demand moving a lot of stock on a daily basis.
- Use steamer where necessary to ensure the stock is presented to its best possible advantage.
- Hang, ticket, size and cube all clothing as appropriate.
- Rotate stock on a daily basis so that no items of stock remain on the shop floor for any longer than the agreed time limits.

**Staff**:

- Promote a happy working environment and to increase efficiency and job satisfaction.
- Assist in the recruitment and training of volunteers.

**Administration and Security**:

- Ensure all relevant administration is completed on time and according to The Rainbow Centre’s expectations.
- Bank daily according to Rainbow Centre policy.
- Ensure that all Rainbow Centre till procedures are adhered to and that cash is kept secure.
- Notify a senior member of staff in the event of suspected theft or dishonesty by any member of staff.
- Ensure that no unauthorised person is allowed to inspect the shop or to examine sales or other records.

**Health and Safety**:

- Comply with all Health & Safety (H & S) regulations as per The Rainbow Centre’s H & S policy.
- Report any maintenance or Health & Safety issues in the shop to the Head of Retail or the Centre.

**GENERAL**:

- Any other duties as appropriate.

**Person Specification**

**Knowledge, Training & Qualifications**
- Good level of general education
- IT literate and numerate
- A knowledge and understanding of the Rainbow Centre’s cause and its objectives.

**Experience**
- Previous retail experience or experience of working in a busy customer facing role.
- Experience of cash handling and reconciliation.

**Skills & attributes**

- Excellent communication and relationship building skills with the ability to build rapport with people of differing ages, backgrounds and cultural origins.
- Good organisational skills

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 22.5 per week

**Salary**: £10.90 per hour
