We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and inspirational nurse leader to join the Health & Justice Senior Team in the role of Deputy Head of Nursing.

You will be an exceptional nurse leader, with a proven track record in senior nursing roles and a passion for developing and advancing practice. You will demonstrate a commitment to the highest standards of care and patient experience, and the ability to lead improvement and innovation. You will have experience of leading multidisciplinary teams and managing change in a multi-faceted environment; preferably across offender health or comparable complex settings. You will demonstrate the ability to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with a variety of stakeholders.

Leading a team of Deputy Lead Nurses, you will work closely with the Head of Nursing, Service Director, Clinical Director, Divisional Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nurses, in order to deliver new innovative models of care, and develop high quality nurse led services in primary care and mental health, across all Health & Justice settings. You will provide expert clinical and professional advice to the Health & Justice Head of Nursing and Senior Management Team. As a highly skilled clinical leader you will engage with staff and stakeholders to promote continuous improvement in quality, safety and patient experience. You will take an active role supporting the Head of Nursing, supervising the development and delivery of clinical and professional standards as well as the development of leadership capacity and capability.

The role represents an excellent opportunity to work across a wide portfolio, including Court and Police Liaison and Diversion Services, Low Secure Inpatient settings, Community Forensic Team and Healthcare within the prison estate. Working with professional and service leads, external partners, staff and service users your role will be pivotal to supporting the Head of Nursing deliver on the CNWL Nursing Strategy alongside the Health and Justice transformation agenda; proudly developing our nursing team and promoting research opportunities that show case high quality care within Health & Justice Services.

Health and Justice has services spanning London, Milton Keynes, Kent and Surrey, although the job base is Central London, the post holder will spend a significant proportion of time travelling to services in each location.

**Key Result Areas**:
Professional Leadership
- Delivery of world class patient care developing all nurses to work to their highest potential, ensuring that nursing within the Directorate has a national and internal profile
- Delivery of the objectives of the nursing strategy and to evaluate and report progress on a monthly basis. This includes delivery of the Nursing objectives providing operational leadership at the local level
- Delivery of clinical care at an expert level, role-modelling skilled delivery of nursing interventions and maintaining skills at the cutting edge of clinical practice
- Contributing to a high level of compliance with the national and local standards across the patient pathway. The post holder will be responsible for making recommendations where no precedent is set and for articulating the standards required
- Record, promote and celebrate success within the nursing workforce, ensuring that nursing achievements are promoted and acknowledged
- Contribute to the local management of under-performance when required, particularly ensuring that nurses are aware of the need to comply with local standards and the NMC Code of Conduct
- Contribute and influence the national policy agenda in relation to the patient care group
- Delivery of a framework to interpret clinical policy change as it relates to care group and provide expert recommendations to operational colleagues, the Trust, local and national policy working parties
- To conduct disciplinary and service investigations as requested by the Divisional Director of Nursing/ Service Director and to advise senior managers in disciplinary hearings

Service Improvement and Practice Excellence
- Ensure that direct care nurses spend 80% of their time undertaking direct care
- Develop care delivery models with service users and senior Directorate nurses which are embedded in clinical practice
- Implement QI initiatives within the Directorate and demonstrating improvements in practice
- Develop processes to embed innovations within clinical practice and build systems that demonstrably sustain excellence
- Work with clinical teams to develop, progress and monitor their action plans following inspections, audit and external visits
- Ensure that nurses can describe and quantify their engagement in care delivery using nursing skills in all aspects of care from everyday tasks to specialist interventions
