We are looking for a HEO Policy Advisor to work on the Department’s approach to state threats, and particularly on economic security. We will provide full training in casework under the National Security & Investments Act 2021 (NSIA), which allows Government to block or intervene in transactions which pose a national security risk. This work can have security, economic, and diplomatic sensitivities, and you will represent the Department’s interests across Whitehall, as well as contributing to briefings for ministers and senior officials.

TSD invests significantly in training and developing staff, to prepare you not just for an interesting and challenging job, but also for a rewarding career in national security.

As you will be part of a team that works on emerging threats and hazards, you will be expected to work flexibly and adapt rapidly to changing requirements and priorities across the team, wider Division and Directorate.

**Responsibilities**:

- Oversee FDI casework and support coordination of DfT’s input, including representing DfT at cross-HMG working-level meetings; work with transport sector leads in DfT to gather information and provide responses on FDI cases.
- Support implementation of DfT’s State Threats Strategy by tracking actions and progress against strategy deliverables.
- Build and maintain stakeholder engagement on state threats work across DfT, including briefing and liaison with sector experts across transport modes within DfT.
- Build and maintain relationships across HMG on relevant state threat strategies, ensuring alignment with DfT state threats work.
- Contribute to the team’s implementation of national security measures in the Procurement Act, mitigating supply chain and vendors of concern threat.

**Additional information**

A minimum of 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.

As you will be part of a team that works on emerging threats and hazards, you will be expected to work flexibly and adapt to rapidly changing requirements and priorities across the team, wider Division and Directorate. You will be required to participate in the Department’s response to a security or civil contingencies incident.
