**Days & Hours**: This is a Waking Night position working within an established team with great support and training. Please see below for the shift pattern.

**About this client/child**:
Jacob is 6 yrs old and lives at home with his lovely family, a large, committed team, plus their cat and small dogJacob is nonverbal although it is clear he enjoys the company of others; he will cry if he feels pain and smile when he is around familiar adults.It is so important he feels safe and secure. Jacob has four-limb Cerebral Palsy with high muscle tone which is painful for him at times. He has no functional movement in his arms or legs and is unable to sit unsupported or weight bear. For all mobility andtransfers, he is dependent on being carried, hoisted, or his wheelchair. He is registered blind and, because of a hearing impairment wears bilateral hearing aids. He has no established form of verbal communication, but once you become familiar with his care,you will be able to identify when he is comfortable and happy. He has epilepsy, which he takes regular medication. He receives all his food and fluid via his PEG and he requires regular suction to maintain his airway and manage his secretions.
**Overview of role**:
The waking night shift begins at 8.00 pm Jacob requires constant monitoring during the night so you will be by his bedside throughout your shift, it is very important to be vigilant all the time as he doesn’t have any voluntary movements and needs to be gentlyrepositioned and suctioned very frequently. There is CCTV in the house, one is next to Jacob and the other one is in the kitchen; **there will always be two support workers on shift **- this will allow you to swap as frequently as needed. Jacob also has severe epileptic seizures but recently these have been more controlled due to the new a medication regime.Waking night shifts available;two to four 4 shifts per week.

You will come into this role with excellent experience supporting a child with complex medical needs, and clear verbal and written communication skills. However, you will also come with a compassionate, thoughtful, nurturing nature. You are going to be partof ‘Team Jacob’ so you will work alongside your colleagues, supporting one another, understanding and respecting Jacob’s family’s values, and personal boundaries, and_ essentially_ ensuring Jacob is safe, comforted, and happy.
