The post holder will work in GP Out of Hours (OOHs) supporting the clinician’s and offer support to reception as required. The post holder will support and care for patients within the clinical setting working under the supervision of the clinical staff. The post holder will assist clinical colleagues with investigations.

be familiar with, and work to, the protocols and policies of the GP OOHs service and Trust policies, paying particular attention to the Chaperoning and Infection Control policies

closely liaise with other disciplines and the provision of a courteous, reliable and quality service to patients, relatives and carers, healthcare professionals, internal departments and outside organisations

be aware of the Health and Safety aspects of staff and patients and to promote a safe environment to work in

have a thorough knowledge of how to prepare, care for and clean equipment within the department and restock supplies

commit to further training as required by both elements of the role and when competent to assist in the training of others.

Undertake observations of the patients’ condition using adult/ paediatric/maternity observations/ national early warning scores and then ensure that the results are reported to the clinician for action e.g: Temperature* Pulse* Blood Pressure* Oxygen Saturations (Pulse Oximetry)* Blood Glucose Levels* Respirations* Pain assessment*

Reports any abnormalities to a clinician and recognise and responds appropriately in emergency situations.

Ensure that patients in the waiting area are kept fully informed at all times and are provided with reassurance and have access to drinks.

Assists in providing basic life support in a cardiac arrest situation.*

**Clerical Duties**:
**Recording of patients attending the department by**:
booking patients into a patient management system.

ensuring all required data is accurately recorded when available.

collating and distributing the resulting documentation speedily and efficiently.

Maintains confidentially of all medical records, and comply with the Caldicott Report, Data Protection Act, Access to Health Records Act and subsequent legislation issued in relation to confidential data.

Sorts and files clinical reports after they have been checked by a clinician/practitioner.
