We are looking for highly motivated individuals who can help us in our mission to improve people’s quality of life and independence every day. Our services allow people to remain in their homes, this helps prevent extended hospital stays, allowing the NHS to deliver frontline care where it is needed most.

You will be part of a newly formed clinical team and support staff set up to deliver clinical excellence across the Consortium of 20 London Boroughs. The contract is due to “go live” in April so this is a unique opportunity to be with us from the very start.

You will be working with, and supported by, a qualified Occupational Therapist (OT) and will be part of a growing clinical team in London and across the Country. The role will involve supporting the equipment service from a clinical perspective in-line with the principals of Clinical Governance. This involves developing skills to become an equipment expert and supporting people with advice, information and training to choose the most cost-efficient way to meet service users equipment needs

Occupational Therapy Assistant duties include but not limited to:

- Make referrals and recommendations, under the clinical supervision of the NRS OT, to other services as required - e.g. referral for safeguarding physiotherapy or community nursing input.
- Clearly record outcomes of intervention in line so that the success, or otherwise, of projects is measurable, both in terms of service user and carer satisfaction as well as financial efficiencies.
- Attend or lead meetings as and when required
- Provide support with gatekeeping of new special orders to promote the use of recycled equipment and demonstrating the cost and efficiency savings achieved
- Provide equipment and service advice to prescribers of community equipment under the guidance of the Occupational Therapist
- Facilitate support and lead on the delivery of training to prescribers, carers, charities and internal staff on equipment and the service
- Support to prescribing teams to identify interim solutions for specials which have failed/require repair in the community whilst the item is being repaired/replaced
- Liaison with equipment companies about special equipment
- Supporting the OT's in developing special projects as agreed with the commissioners
- Attend and support service user and prescriber forums
- Keeping an accurate record of work undertaken
- Offering support or training either over the phone or face to face regarding the use of IRIS and the special equipment ordering process.
- Supporting the Customer Support Assistants in their daily contact with prescribers and their queries.
- Supporting internal staff with advice and training
- Cataloguing special equipment effectively, keeping the on-line catalogue up to date and manage and integrate the special and children’s equipment service across the service through the delivery of monthly update bulletins.
- Supporting Equipment Review Groups and Service Review Groups
- To complete investigations and audits under the guidance of an Occupational Therapist
- Work with the NRS OT and prescribers to promote effective partnership working.
- Work in partnership with Health, Social Services, therapy and community nursing staff across the London Consortium in relation to the community equipment service, and other agencies as necessary.

Occupational Therapy Assistant Keys Skills and competencies include:

- Relevant additional qualifications e.g. NVQ Level II / III in Health and Social Care or willingness to undergo additional vocational training as required
- Demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge and skills in the field of the equipment needs of adults and/or paediatrics.
- Proficient IT skills
- Demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge of conditions and disability
- Participate in NRS Healthcare's appraisal and supervision processes
- Fully compliant with all relevant mandatory training as and when required.
- Participate in service development and training as required.
- Train the trainer qualifications or willingness to undertake additional training
