The Hamilton Kerr Institute (HKI) is one of the world's leading centres for teaching and research in conservation and heritage science.

The majority of the Fitzwilliam Museum's collection of 500,000 artworks and objects are not on display. This role ensures a coordinated and consistent approach to the provision of access to the collection through Study Rooms and collections-related enquiries, to a range of users, including undergraduate, postgraduate and further education students, researchers, community groups and participants in learning programmes.

The post-holder, part of the newly formed Department of Collections Management & Documentation, will coordinate - and contribute to - the staffing, invigilation and service provided in the Museum's Study Rooms, working closely with collections management, curatorial, conservation, health & safety and operations staff to ensure safety of collections and visitors. They will ensure consistent and clear information, regulations and guidance around these areas of work.

They will coordinate the distribution of collections-related enquiries to appropriate colleagues and coordinate the support of object-led teaching for undergraduate, postgraduate and further education courses. We are seeking someone with experience of public service provision in a collections environment, and someone who is experienced in managing public enquiries. In addition, someone who has excellent organisational and administrative skills and is adept at safe handling of objects and artworks.
