Watford, United Kingdom East of England Ambulance Service Trust Full time

A close working relationship between East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) and West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust is increasingly important and provides a vital link in the long and difficult journey on which many of our patients who are conveyed to hospitals embark. The Hospital Ambulance Liaison Officer (HALO) smooths the transition of care from EAAST to the receiving acute hospital trust, and is therefore instrumental in improving the patient experience.

Our HALOs work diligently with West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust site managers and clinical staff, along with EEAST Emergency Operational Control (EOC) room staff, to ensure that hospital delays are reduced to an absolute minimum, ambulance availability is sustained, and patients in the local communities receive the appropriate response to emergency calls.

The HALO requires a high level of paramedic clinical expertise to enable credible discussions with consultant led teams at the acute hospital trusts. HCPC registration and completed the consolidation of learning. Experience of working in ambulance operations is essential. Although the HALO position is well established, the role continues to evolve.

As part of the local management team, HALOs are required to initiate staff welfare as required in addition to fulfilling many of the management functions required to maintain high levels of ambulance availability.
