Cover Supervisor

**Overview**
The role of Cover Supervisor is to supervise classes during the short-term absence of teachers, ensuring pre-prepared exercises are carried out and maintaining a constructive learning environment in line with the school’s policies. The role includes managing pupil behaviour, assisting with educational activities, and providing support across various school functions.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
**Teaching and Classroom Management**:
- Supervise students during the absence a teacher.
- Mark class registers at the beginning of lessons.
- Disseminate and explain pre-prepared work using provided materials and your own knowledge.
- Maintain classroom discipline and manage behaviour in accordance with school policies.
- Support students' learning by working with small groups when necessary.
- Collect and return completed work and materials at the end of lessons.
- Dismiss classes in an orderly manner.
**Support for Teachers**:
- Liaise with teachers regarding work set for classes.
- Provide feedback on student performance and any issues arising.
- Assist with administrative tasks, including reprographics and data input.
- Support classroom activities, including working with students with special educational needs (SEND).
**Student Supervision and Support**:
- Supervise students during morning breaks, lunch times, and school transitions, if required.
**General and Administrative Duties**:
- Participate in all relevant INSET (In-Service Training) and professional development activities.
- Ensure health and safety requirements are met.
- Undertake other duties as directed by senior staff to support the school’s operations.
- Maintain a tidy and conducive learning environment.
**Person Specification**
**Education and Qualifications**
- 5 GCSEs including English and Maths - Essential
- 2 A-Levels or Level 3 equivalent - Desirable
- Degree level qualification - Desirable
**Skills, Experience and Attributes**
- Experience working in a secondary school environment - Desirable
- Experience working with or caring for children of a relevant age - Desirable
- Good organisational skills and confidence in using ICT - Essential
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Essential
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team - Essential
- Flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive approach to work - Essential
- Ability to manage classroom activities safely and effectively - Essential
- Understanding of child development and learning processes - Desirable
- Knowledge of classroom behaviour management strategies - Desirable
