Job purpose: The post holder is responsible for contributing to the operational running of the sports facilities, by providing a high standard of customer service provision. Supporting colleagues, in order to assist the users of the sports facilities to gain full benefit and enjoyment from their visit, ensuring participants’ safety is maintained.
**Key accountability/primary responsibilities**
1. To lead by example by in ensuring our customers can access and use our sports facilities safely, including but not limited to:
- Aiding and maintaining the safety and security of all users and facilities from a general point of view.
- Monitoring, assessing, and reviewing the cleanliness of the buildings and equipment, coordinating the Sport Operations Assistants to ensure completion of daily tasks.
- Completion of regular building checks, including fire safety and facility damage, to identify and resolve current and future concerns.
- Being the main contact in responding to accidents and emergencies within our facilities.
- Working with the Operations Supervisor to support with the documentation for relevant health, safety and compliance audit trails.

2. Acting as deputy to the Operations Supervisor, this will involve acting as key holder, along with the coordination of the daily operations, including but not limited to:
- Organising staff breaks and adequate cover.
- Highlighting work and aims of the daily shift for themselves and other staff members.
- Supporting with the pool plant operations.
- Ensuring that our individual facilities comply to the regulated people ratios.
- Organising the setting up and taking down of equipment as per our booking system.
- Creating a safe environment for staff and customers.

3. To act as a lifeguard, and be part of the delivery of sporting and fitness activity within Southampton Sport

4. To champion our customer service excellence model, providing the greatest quality service. Constantly being an ambassador for active and fitness lifestyles at the University of Southampton and listening to and escalating customer to improve quality standards

5. To support the vison of sport through meeting objectives and KPI’s set by the Operations Supervisor/Operations Manager.

6. To comply with University policies, regulations and working practices.

**Special Requirements**:
- The flexibility to work a shift pattern which includes evening, weekends, Bank Holidays and University closures and to cover absence.
- The flexibility to work at multiple sites where sports facilities are located.
- Undertake such tasks as are reasonably requested by the Student Services Management

**Essential**:
- Life-guarding RLSS NPLQ
- First Aid Qualification
**Desirable**:
- Work experience of acquired in a relevant sporting area
- Pool Plant Operator Qualification
