We're looking for someone who's enthusiastic about woodlands and helping to care for our Lake District landscape. We have an opportunity for a Woodland Ranger to join our South Lakes countryside team to help us manage our 4000ha estate.

As a Woodland Ranger, you’re the heart and soul of the National Trust in the landscapes we protect. You’re a champion of our woodland habitats, nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the Lake District’s beloved trees and woodlands in good health, for wildlife and for people.

It’s an exciting time to join the team, in a varied role that will allow you to use your conservation, access and visitor engagement experience to deliver high quality management of our trees and woodlands in the South Lakes.

**Salary**:£23,868 - £24,843 dependant on experience

You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call.

What it's like to work here:Managed by the Woodland Area Ranger, you’ll be based from our office in Coniston in the heart of the Lake District and be part of our dynamic 15 strong countryside team, working in a supportive envir onment helping one another across the portfolio. The portfolio has strong ties to Beatrix Potter, her beloved Hill Top House, and legacy of land, farms, buildings and Herdwick sheep.

We care 4000ha of land in some of the most spectacular and iconic parts of the Lake District (UNESCO World Heritage Site) around Coniston, Little Langdale and Hawkshead. Our countryside estate is a diverse range of habitats, which includes over 1100ha of woodlands, made up of SSSI Atlantic Oak Wood, Ancient Semi-Natural woodland, productive conifer and more recent broadleaved plantations.

What you'll be doing:As the Woodland Ranger you'll be helping to protect and care for our trees and woodland habitats. With an eye for detail, you’ll make sure that our conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You’ll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm for this landscape and build long lasting relationships with our farm tenants, local communities, and visitors, letting people know about the work you and the team are delivering and facilitating opportunities for them to get involved.

Who we're looking forWe’d love to hear from you if you’re:

- practically experienced in conservation work to protect and improve woodland habitats
- experienced in estate maintenance and managing land for people and access to a high standard with an eye for detail in your practical work
- confident leading volunteers and talking to all kinds of people about the work you’re doing, and its importance
- organised, able to work independently, prioritise and record your work
- hard-working, willing to learn and be part of a team
- able to work safely, using risk assessments and following guidelines
- a driver with a full UK driving licence
- competence with, and relevant qualifications for the use of machinery and equipment (e.g., chainsaw, trailer driving, brushcutter etc).
