Blood Sciences Specimen Reception Supervisor

Are you a multitasking supervisor who can to perform a wide range of duties to deliver ? Then we want to hear from you. MSE pathology team has an exciting opportunity at our Chelmsford facility for a Blood Sciences Specimen Reception Supervisor.
The post holder will be responsible for supervision of day-to-day activities in Specimen Reception and Blood Sciences Office. This will include staff management and supervision of Specimen Reception workload and workflow and assisting the Specimen Reception Manager in the management of all functions. The role will also include aspects of Quality Management to assist in maintaining the laboratory UKAS accreditation, including internal auditing and document management.
Creation and management weekly and 6 weekly rotas including allocation of duties to MLA staff, including making changes and managing absences; re-allocating staff when required. Management of staff annual leave and assisting in staff appraisals and sickness management. Day-today monitoring of Specimen Reception activity and reporting and escalating to the Specimen Reception Manager. Training and working alongside Specimen Reception MLAs and assisting in basic pre-analytical duties when necessary. Assisting in recruitment and induction of permanent and temporary staff. Internal auditing and document control in-line with UKAS accreditation requirements. To perform any other duties, commensurate with the grade and in the interest of the service.

- Responsible for the production of the departmental staffing roster in good time.
- Review and authorize requests for planned leave to facilitate effective functioning of the Blood Science Reception
- Ensure that all duties and responsibilities carried out within Blood Sciences Reception are compliant with Clinical Pathology Accreditation (CPA) and UKAS ISO Standards. This may be achieved through audit, KPI review and other benchmarking activity.
- To regularly review the protocols and standing operating procedures making recommendations to senior management team as required
- To assist the Specimen Reception Manager in project work related to service improvements
- To monitor and maintain stocks of consumables for specimen reception and stationery in line with agreed levels
- To report any equipment failures in line with Departmental protocols
- Organise and monitor staff training and competency assessment, including Trust mandatory training
- To produce annual leave record cards and the approval of leave for Blood Science Reception and Office staff members
- To assist in staff appraisals, well-being meetings and some stages of sickness management
