**STATEMENT TAKER**
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Statement Taker to work in-house for a large firm of solicitors managing civil law cases. As a Statement Taker, you’ll be responsible for liaising with clients, researching and gathering evidence by way of witness statements, photographs, and any other relevant pieces of evidence needed to support a client’s case, as well as attending inquests on the Firm’s behalf to take evidence notes as and when required.
Whilst most work can be completed remotely, a benefit of being able to work smarter as a result of the pandemic, some cases may require your presence in person, for whatever reason, and your flexibility will be required in relation to this on occasions.
**Key Responsibilities**
- To be a local enquiry agent exclusively for Scott Rees & Co
- To progress your caseload in a timely manner and with efficiency to satisfy the client and maximize the Firm’s interest
- Respect the client’s privacy and maintain confidentiality with each case
- To liaise with and take instructions from your Team Manager
**Key Tasks**
- Regular use of the Firm’s case management system to keep all cases up to date at all times
- To liaise with clients direct to make appointments to meet with individuals when instructed to do so and to manage their expectations in respect of quality and service
- To attend upon clients, potential clients and witnesses in civil cases (including wills and probate), including gaining consent to access GP/medical/hospital records when required
- To complete standard documents, take witness statements and make file notes in respect of the above
- To prepare photographs and sketch plans of accident/incident scenes
- To trace clients and witnesses by local enquiries and online searches
- To attend conferences with Counsel as the Firm’s representative
- Provide assistance to team members when required, including training new members of staff entering the department as and when required
- Manage own case load effectively
- Any other duties that may be assigned to you from time to time
**Personal Characteristics**
- Must have an understanding of civil law processes and procedures
- Be well organised in order to manage a multi-case workload
- Be able to work under pressure with an understanding of the swift and accurate nature needed to meet deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively/empathically face to face, by telephone or by online meeting forum with clients
- Ability to work autonomously within the community
- Familiar with the use of digital photographic technology
- In possession of a full, clean driving licence
There is no cold calling involved in this role.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent, Part-time
