Mission Statement

Dundee and Angus ADHD Support Group will provide a designated Family Support Worker who will meet with the families, mainly in their own home, and help address any issues they may be struggling with in relation to ADHD. The support will be adapted to suit the needs of each family and may include one to one work with children when this is assessed as necessary.

The team can also act in an advocacy role for the families at professional meetings or with other relevant agencies.

All referrals are received directly from the families themselves.

Job Title: Family Support Worker

Hours: 20 weekly

**Salary**: £15.00 per hour

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Caseload will consist of children and families who are affected by ADHD both diagnosed and on the CAHMS waiting list.
- Be responsible for an agreed caseload, undertaking intervention and assessment care.
- Planning, care management and review of cases.
- Be available (as part of a team), at times of need to contain family crisis to mitigate against the possibility of a family breakdown.
- Work effectively and proactively in co-operation with other agencies.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of preventative intervention packages aimed at maintaining Children/Young People in their own homes avoiding the need to accommodate those children/young people and prevent placement breakdowns.
- Under supervision and guidance compiling reports for relevant agencies and families.
- Provide practical support and advice to families relating to ADHD including signposting and/or liaising with appropriate agencies such as housing and benefits on behalf of service users.
- Provide practical support and advice to service users on childcare, household management, children's education, budgeting and managing finances.
- Use knowledge and skills to encourage parents, children and young people to manage their home environment and behavior appropriately. Undertake relevant training to maintain and improve your knowledge and skills and contribute to the learning and development of others.
- Maintain personal development, keeping up to date with legislation, best practice and completing training as required.
- Be aware of relevant health and safety responsibilities and duties and comply with the ADHD group policy.
- Any other appropriate duties as requested by Management commensurate with the grade for the post.

**Education**

**HNC or SVQ Level 3 in either social care, promoting independence or Working with Children and Young People and able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience**

**This post requires a PVG**
