The Council’s Repairs and Maintenance Service are recruiting 2 permanent Surveyors

**The Role**
- To undertake building surveying of domestic buildings, commercial and other HRA assets.
- To provide a professional technical advice service, to support and effectively liaise with others in the Repairs & Maintenance Service and those involved in delivering the service.

**Key Essential Skills and Person Specification**
- Responsible for building surveys, condition assessments and specialist surveys such as EPC’s, Asbestos and HHSRS including recording accurate dimensions in accordance with industry standards and to identify where properties do not comply with relevant legislation or standards.
- Provide training and technical support to team members and apprentices, support safe site visits by undertaking a visual risk assessment.
- Maintaining accurate and timely site instructions. Having an awareness of the budget implications, validating invoices and work completions to advise others with budget management responsibility, providing cost estimates when required. Give advice to others in service about suitable products for individual projects and provide cost estimates using SORs or supplier information.
- Responsible for effective consultation and communication, both formally and informally, with tenants, leaseholders, contractors, product suppliers, elected members, colleagues and stakeholders. Liaising with emergency services, and organisations such as utility companies, HSE, Building Control and the Environment Agency.
- To co-ordinate and attend meetings with contractors, suppliers, appropriate agencies, project groups, public meetings (as and when required) and evaluate, to help contribute to improving the performance of an investment activity / project.
- Undertaking the first stage problem solving customer complaints including replies to elected members and other bodies.
- Responsible for using Auto-cad and other 3D design packages to produce technical and visualisation details for buildings. Use the National Building Specification software and other equivalent products to prepare technical drawings and specifications.
- Undertake the clerk of works role as part of the contracts administration of capital projects and to operate in accordance with documented procedures.
- Effective operation of IT systems, including use of handheld IT equipment and contribute towards their improvement.
- Produce written reports to internal and external bodies, examples to include, property survey reports, scope of works, option appraisals, product evaluation reports, building specifications, monthly on-site Health and safety reports, HHSRS reports and dilapidation surveys.
- To visit clients in their own homes and other properties to carry out general surveying as part of contract administrative duties and assess / diagnose what improvements may be required to a property.
- Contribute towards developing and delivering targets within the unit’s service plan.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
