Role Overview

The Senior Legal Adviser, Commercial is a member of the Commercial Legal team, which sits in the Commercial, Corporate & Property Legal team.

As part of the Commercial Legal team you will be accountable for providing legal advice to underpin delivery of Bupa’s business strategy and purpose, in particular ensuring that the legal risks and operations of procurement relating to BGUK and Group businesses, the Corporate Clinics customer-facing operations and Digital initiatives are being appropriately managed and controlled.

What you'll do...

The Senior Legal Adviser, Commercial will:
- Control of day-to-day operational decisions;- Require mínimal assistance but benefit from the support of the Head of Legal and all members of the Commercial Legal team;- Ensure that Legal Director Commercial, Corporate & Property / Head of Legal, Commercial and senior stakeholders are kept informed at all times of all legal issues and developments that would materially impact the risk exposure of the business;- Operate within and take account of the policies and procedures set and guidance given by the Heads of Legal, Legal Directors, General Counsel or Bupa’s Chief Legal Officer;- Keep the Head of Legal, Commercial, Legal Director Commercial, Corporate & Property and, where applicable the General Counsel, BGUK, appraised of all material legal matters and will escalate any legal risks, issues or concerns to the Head of Legal, Commercial and, where applicable the General Counsel BGUK, in a timely manner;

Provide professional, strategic and operational legal advice and assistance, in order to manage and mitigate contractual legal risks within Bupa, including:
- operational responsibility for a significant Business Unit (“BU”), namely Health Clinics, and a significant Function, namely Procurement, within the UK Market Unit;- as an expert on procurement and large customer-facing contracts, providing advice and support to the business in drafting and negotiating agreements with suppliers and Clinics corporate customers and business partners, in order to achieve agreed business outcomes and ensure compliance with all applicable law and regulation, including Bupa’s own policies, guidance and procedures;- working closely with the procurement team to deliver effective support and advice as a key team member in RFI, RFP and competitive tender processes;- working closely with Clinics Sales and Digital teams to deliver effective support of Health Clinics corporate customer contracting and legal support for new Digital propositions (end to end where appropriate)- developing, aligning with the business, and implementing legal strategy, policies and processes in order to mitigate legal risk for Bupa;- providing an escalation point for complex technical queries and ensuring their effective and commercially sound resolution;- making a strong contribution to the development of an effective, efficient, motivated and agile Commercial Legal team;- procuring and co-ordinating high quality and cost-effective external legal advice where appropriate, seeking added value from Bupa’s external legal relationships;- ensuring that Bupa’s name, reputation and intellectual property rights are protected;- working with key stakeholders to improve practice and protocols, in order to ensure completion of contracts in a timely manner;- assisting with the development of procedures, templates and guidance to enable the stakeholders to be more self-sufficient on contracts, in particular low risk contracts;- keeping up-to-date with external best practice and developments in the law in order to maintain and share up-to-date knowledge and ensure continuous improvement; and- ensuring that appropriate procedures are in place so that the business has adequate advance notice of changes in applicable laws and regulation and to assist the business in understanding the commercial implications of such changes.
