Africa Alive Zoological Reserve - East Anglia**Contact**: **Sector**: - Education**Type**: - Paid**Contract type**: - Full-time**Salary**: - £20,319.00Job description As a Trainee Conservation Education Officer, you will work with the Conservation Education team across ZSEA to help deliver the strategy objectives of Educating ABOUT nature, IN nature and FOR nature. In this exciting role, you’ll help provide the tools and opportunities for schools at every level to increase nature education provision in their curriculums by creating and delivering a formal education programme from EYFS to FE/HE level, based on biodiversity and sustainability. You will help provide a range of indoor and outdoor education opportunities, both onsite and through outreach, encouraging schools to spend more time outside of the classroom and connecting with nature. As well as formal school sessions, you will assist in the planning and delivery of learning opportunities for specific audiences, through activities such as summer holiday clubs and fun days. Working with the wider education team you will help ensure that all of our learning opportunities are inclusive and accessible for all, as well as assisting in the evaluation of all of our programmes. Based at Africa Alive this 37.5 hour per week position reports into the Senior Education Officer for day to day responsibilities and to the Conservation Education Manager for project work **Key duties will involve**: **Ensuring ZSEA meets the objectives of the Conservation Education Strategy through**: - Planning, producing and delivering a range of formal education sessions for EYFS to FE/HE level, based around the National Curriculum and ZSEA’s conservation message. These sessions may be onsite, online or outreach. - Planning, producing and delivering a range of activities for specific groups such as summer clubs, SEND days etc. - Assisting in evaluation and research projects to ensure we are meeting the requirements of the BIAZA / EAZA conservation education standards and continuing to provide evidence for the importance of conservation education to behaviour change for conservation and sustainability. - Ensuring that the conservation education values of biodiversity, sustainability and inclusivity will be embedded in all ZSEA's output. The guiding principles of "Love. Not Loss" and the UN Sustainability Goals will be applied when designing any activity or interpretation for ZSEA. - Forming and maintaining a good working knowledge of the relevant sections of the National Curriculum for KS 1 - 4 and EYFS. - Devising, write and continually upgrade the educational resources for use by schools, home educators and the general public. - Undertaking training or CPD as required to ensure the department keeps up to date with all the latest developments in conservation education, curriculums, natural history and teaching practices. This also includes training to assist with SEND / SEMH education and safeguarding. - Working collaboratively across the organisation ensuring the smooth delivery of the day-to-day visitor activities. - Helping to ensure that conservation education always remains fun, engaging and as accessible and inclusive as possible **Please note as the role is for a trainee the expectation is that some of these tasks may not be accomplished immediately, or may be accomplished with supervision until full training is completed and an acceptable standard of capability is achieved** **What we need from you -** - A degree level qualification (or equivalent experience within a zoo environment) is preferred in order to teach science at all levels. - Experience in the education sector - Knowledge of the National Curriculum and EYFS Framework desirable - Experience gained in an organisation where visitors come to enjoy a day out and/or learn, such as a zoo, outdoor education centre or museum. - Great communication skills - Experience with SEND / SEMH audiences desirable - Ability to prioritise and very well organised. - Able to challenge ideas respectfully. - Able to demonstrate a consistent, collaborative, and respectful approach to management and building relationships with other teams. - Respect’s confidentiality, inclusivity, and diversity - Strong critical thinking skills and able to help others to resolve them. - Able to stay focused on tasks in hand. - Ability to listen and have empathy and understanding. - Microsoft Word, Excel, PPT literacy essential and Adobe experience desirable.
