We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic and pharmacy support worker to join our pharmacy team, based at the Cavell Centre in Peterborough.

Our pharmacy support workers play an integral role as members of the team by ensuring medicines are dispensed and provided to the wards efficiently. This post will suit an individual wishing to join a vibrant working environment with a desire to further improve on their current knowledge and skills.

We will provide the necessary support to ensure your development within your role. We are keen to support and develop our staff and encourage promotion opportunities within the Trust.

The Pharmacy Support Worker carries out duties in support of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and also carries out general and administrative duties within the dispensary.

All duties will be in accordance with Trust and departmental policies and procedures.

1. To participate in the day to work of the mental health unit dispensary, providing quality, accurate dispensing.
2. To participate in the supply of medicines in the form of in and out-patient dispensing, including accurate prescription receipt, labelling and assembly, and ensuring prompt completion and distribution, in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
3. Contributing to the smooth running of the clozapine service.
4. Ordering of stock medication for wards and distribution of medicines to the wards.
5. Maintaining working stock levels of pharmaceuticals and other items, including bottles and consumables in the dispensary.
6. Participating in the stock control process including stock checking, receipt and storage of medicines and other items.
7. Processing the disposal of stock returned from wards and departments
8. Performing general housekeeping duties to maintain the dispensary environment to the standards required.
9. Communicating with service users, carers and members of staff at the pharmacy hatch and telephone about the availability of medicines and other issues.
10. Covering for annual leave and sickness of other team members as required.
11. Participate in dispensing and supply associated with external contracts and be aware of dispensing practices for each area.
12. Using own initiative, prioritise and be responsible for the workflow within the dispensary.
13. Participate in the issuing of controlled drugs, ensuring correct register and computer records are maintained.
14. Accurately dispense into compliance aids, following suitable assessment of the patients, or supply other methods for help with concordance as appropriate.
15. Be jointly responsible along with other pharmacy staff for the safety and security of pharmaceuticals including controlled drugs.
16. Ensure medication problems are dealt with promptly and by the appropriate people.
17. Participate in training other pharmacy support workers as appropriate.
18. Participate in the rolling and annual stock take process.
19. Contribute to hospital-wide procurement processes under supervision
