We are looking for a bright, highly motivated individual to join our fast paced and growing buying team as a Senior Buyer. Ideally you will have previous experience working within a Builder’s merchants, Groundworkers, Housebuilder or Civil engineering company.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Undertake pricing negotiation with suppliers in accordance with buying procedures.
- Ensure materials are ordered having regard for quality and lead times.
- Have an up to date understanding of market conditions and feed this back to the whole buying team and relevant parts of the business.
- Develop close working relationships with the commercial teams to make sure budget information in terms of quantity and price are accurate.
- Source new or alternative products and liaise and negotiate with both new and existing suppliers when required.
- Accurately manage, organise and update relevant information on company database.
- Monitor open orders and chase to completion/ rescheduling if necessary. Be extremely responsive to acting on requests/ chasing information to complete an order.
- Liaise with production staff and other internal departments on any discrepancies between purchase date and required date or price discrepancies.
- Effective management of queries and ensuring resolution of any queries.
- Review project minutes and liaise with the site management team/ commercial team to ensure you understand buying requirements of the project.
- Communicate effectively internally and externally to ensure we are operating efficiently; liaise with suppliers, manufacturers, relevant internal departments and site as needed.
- Manage all supply chain and rebates for their area and working alongside the team in ensuring volumes distributed to maximise recovery through rebates.
- Early cost advice/ tender request for pricing.
- Contribute to buying gains.
- Maximise cost savings on all purchases.
- Use your additional knowledge/ experience and expertise to show that you are a senior buyer and make a difference to company cost/ efficiency.
- Responsible for the training and development of staff within your control/ area and ensure departmental knowledge is very good.
- Support the Buying Manager with staff development/ review and on going efficiency reviews within the department
- Produce/ analyse reports/ data that has been allocated to you.
- Effectively manage and develop the supplier database in conjunction with the Buying Manager.
- Review and maintenance of the supply chain with the Buying Manager including rebates/ discounts etc.
- Other duties as reasonably required from time to time

**Requirements**:

- Similar buying experience with a background of working for a builder’s merchants/ groundworkers/ house builders/ civil engineers
- At least 5 GCSE's grade A-C
- Excellent computer skills, including Word and Excel
- Commercial and Financial awareness
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Work well under pressure
- Excellent organisational skills
- Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
- Excellent negotiation skills
- Ambitious and motivated personality
