We are looking for an experienced Designer to work on the design and development of the Paul Smith Men’s Leather Goods collection, with a main focus on small leather goods and assisting with the bag collections if required. Reporting directly to the Head of Leather Goods Design, you will take responsibility from initial concepts to final presentation.
**The Role**
To be responsible for the design and development of the Men’s small leather goods collections and and assist with the bag collections, from initial concept to final presentation.
Follow range plans set by the Leather Goods Merchandiser and Head of Accessories Design.
Initial research into themes, materials and techniques, in close collaboration with the Head of Leather Goods Design.
Collaborate with material developers to explore new ideas, materials and themes.
Communicate clear design specifications to suppliers and manufacturers with the product development team.
Develop clear and accurate design specifications, communicating these to suppliers and manufacturers.
Maintain cost awareness in design to reach target prices set by the Head of Accessories.
Sign off on final designs in collaboration with the Head of Leather Goods Design.
Provide clear communication to the Production team of any final design amendments to ensure quality standards are met and assist with supplier follow-ups if needed.
Attend sample reviews when required.
Travel domestically and internationally to work with suppliers and other departments.
**Your Skills and Experience**
Credible experience working in a design environment, working with small leather goods and bags, particularly focused on Men’s leather goods design.
Advanced level of computer literacy in Illustrator, Photoshop & Microsoft Office packages.
Extensive knowledge about all aspects of the design development process for leather goods, including the creation of technical diagrams and specifications in set time-frames.
Skilled and knowledgeable about the Accessories market, with a key understanding of trends and competent researching trends within the Accessories market.
Experience of working with business partners and customers across the UK and internationally, with knowledge and awareness of how factories operate.
Able to produce excellent, accurate and detailed drawings, working with design programs or freehand.
