Trainee Educational Mental Health Practitioners

This is an exciting opportunity to train become a fully qualified Educational Mental Health Practitioner and build the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) offering to children, families and schools, who need for mental health support, whilst working creatively with the training to meet the children’s additional needs and support schools.
You will be required to fully participate in the Educational Mental Health Practitioner training course, whilst receiving continual supervision and support.
To attend and fully participate in the Educational Mental Health Practitioner course.
Deliver evidence-based intervention for children and young people in an education setting with mild to moderate mental health problems.
Helping children and young people within school settings who present with more severe problems to rapidly access more specialist services.
Supporting and facilitating staff in education settings to identify and where appropriate manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing.
Working with and within education environments to afford better access to specialist mental health services.
To support schools in developing strategies/activities to promote emotional well-being and positive mental health.
To work with families following the parent as therapist method to support emotional wellbeing within the home.
To support the school to develop their overall whole school approach to emotional wellbeing.
And to use the acquired skills, knowledge, and abilities to deliver a service based within education settings that builds on and reinforces but does not replace those initiatives that already exist within these environments.
The Mental Health Support Team is a National trailblazer scheme offering early intervention mental health support, to children and their families, within schools. The SEND MHST is the only MHST within the country, to offer support to SEND schools across Hertfordshire and West Essex. We currently work in over 50 schools offering tailored support to children with additional needs, learning disabilities, and Autistic Spectrum Disorder aged 5-18. As the only SEND MHST in the country we are also paving the way, and supporting other teams to develop their wellbeing services, for children with additional needs.

- Creative and flexible in their approach.

- Have good basic literacy and numeracy qualifications, at a minimum of level 2.

- Able to work both in a team environment and autonomously.
- Able to maintain a high degree of professionalism when working in settings where there is a highly emotive atmosphere.
