**Two posts | Early Intervention Custody Worker | 8592 | secondment opportunity/temporary contract for 18 months | 37 hours per week | £36,124 to £37,938 per annum | Grade I | Wymondham, Norwich**
**Who are we?**
Our Norfolk Youth Justice Service (YJS) is a statutory multi-agency partnership hosted within Norfolk County Council to prevent children from offending whilst safeguarding their welfare, protecting the public and helping restore the damage caused to the victims of their crimes.
- We are advocates
- We are advisers
- We are supportersWe keep children at the heart of everything we do
**What would we like?**
We are looking for:
- motivated people who can engage with children encountering the criminal justice system
- innovative people who can create and deliver bespoke strength-based intervention packages with children.
- someone who can balance the safeguarding of the child alongside the safeguarding of the community at large.
- people who can work flexibly, with an expectation of some evening, weekend and bank holiday working. This includes work on a rota basis to cover weekend and bank holidays.
Our innovative **Early Intervention Custody Project**aims to support children during the ‘reachable moment’ of being in police custody - when they are separated from mobile phones, social media, and peer pressure, and can reflect on the consequences of their actions and the direction of their lives. The project operates at arm’s length from the Norfolk Youth Justice Service. The team works to support children both in custody and in the community, helping to identify and safeguard against exploitation and serious youth violence, with the goal of preventing reoffending.
These posts will be based at **Wymondham Police Investigation Centre (PIC)**but part of your working week will involve being out in the community or visiting the remaining custody suites across Norfolk.
You must have a driving licence and access to a vehicle to meet the requirements of the post.
You will work very closely with colleagues from a range of other agencies, including out of county authorities. It is essential to work with clarity, focus and imagination to maintain a professional balance between the welfare needs of children and the responsibilities of the criminal justice system to the community.
