The In-Patient Liaison Lead is a tertiary role across Buckinghamshire primarily to case manage young people with the most complex needs requiring multi agency support. The role also includes oversight of out of area inpatients.

The In-Patient Liaison Lead would sit within the Crisis element of the OSCA (Outreach Service for Children and Adolescent) team. OSCA is a specialised element of an integrated service model of care in the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) which also includes the specialised CAMHS pathways, Child and Adolescent Forensic team (CAF), Adoption services, Addiction Services, Youth Offending service (YOS) and inpatient and day services.

The post holder will provide expert clinical care, leadership, support and consultancy across the county’s CAMHS teams.

The successful applicant will also be required to participate in the Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire out of hours on
- call rota and will be expected to work evenings and weekends as per team rota.

The post holder will also be required to work within the teams Crisis rota, to support the facilitation of the service in-hours (8-8pm) as required for the needs of said population.

- Enabling children and young people with high levels of mental health need to be supported in their own homes or placements
- Offering choice to children, young people and their families and carers
- Avoiding inpatient admissions
- Reducing inpatient days (including within acute settings)
- Management of young people who present in a Crisis via Section 136 of the Mental Health Act (MHA)
- Avoiding placement breakdown
- Offering advice, support and supervision to systems supporting young people, such as addiction, adoption and youth offending services

Expert Clinical Practice
- Provide expert care to patients on their caseload. Providing skilled assessment, treatment, supervision and consultation within CAMHS
- The post holder will have Clinical Care Coordinator responsibility for an agreed case load of Crisis patients, undertaking CPA, including crisis and risk management
- Develop risk management plans, regularly review risk plans, identifying opportunities for positive risk taking in conjunction with the client, community team and client’s carers/ relatives/ significant others
- Provide expertise and specialist advice, supervision, guidance and consultation to other professionals delivering complex interventions and to contribute directly to young people’s assessment and treatment
- Exercise a high degree of personal professional autonomy
- Make critical judgements of the highest order to satisfy the expectations and

demands of the job
- Make decisions where precedents do not exist, where appropriate without recourse to others, and to advise and support colleagues where standard protocols do not apply
- Draw on advanced knowledge and exercise professional skills of the highest order, some of which are likely to be highly specialist, acquired only after lengthy training, supervision and practice
- Make and receive referrals
- Complete advanced history taking, and physical examinations as required with patient group
- Regularly undertake clinical supervision
- Work flexibility across a 7-day working week as required.
