**The Team**

The Analysis (Air) branch is part of the MOD’s Analytical Function. We are made up of a Head of Branch and two teams, the Information Analysis team (IAT), and the Forecasting team (FT). Our role is to support evidence-based decision making and workforce planning with statistical management information, analysis, modelling and advice to the RAF and wider Defence.

We are based at Headquarters Air Command, located in the village of Walters Ash. We offer a friendly, dynamic, and encouraging team, collaborating with other multi-disciplined Analysis teams based around the South of the UK.

Working closely with other analytical teams across Defence we provide a co-ordinated and comparative view of RAF personnel. This information is, for example, published in National Statistics publications, used as critical evidence for the Defence Board, Armed Forces Pay Review Body and used to respond to Freedom of Information requests and Parliamentary Questions.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
**The Role**

This role sits within the IAT which comprises of 1x C1/SEO (Senior Team Leader), 1x C2/HEO (Team Leader) and 2x D/EO (Team Member).

We work closely with RAF customers providing vital analysis to help them plan and manage RAF recruitment and career progression policies.

Principally, the IAT produce a variety of quarterly, bi-annual, and annual publications for Air Command and wider MOD. We also handle the month data extracts which are essential for accurate analysis.

The role will sit under the C2/HEO/Team Leader, you will be responsible in leading the monthly data process, supporting the delivery of high-quality dashboards, and assist in timely responses to data and analysis requests by customers (internal and external to Defence).

**Key Responsibilities**
- Working with large datasets and authorities to explore, investigate and improve data quality and availability in preparation for analysis.
- Running and maintaining automated quality assurance methods and documentation.
- Utilising data visualisation techniques to disseminate dashboards to customers (e.g. Power BI, R and interactive Excel dashboards).
- Provide authoritative verbal and written advice to customers on the uses of the output along with any limitations.
- Manipulate data from various sources efficiently to provide customized analysis for customers. (eg using R, SQL, Excel).
- Prioritise workload, keeping customers advised of progress and address emerging issues.
- Support wider Analysis area teams on projects and offer contingency.

**Person specification**:
**Essential Skills**
- Good analytical and numeracy skills.
- Experience in one of the following Excel/SQL/R/Power BI.
- Experience working with large datasets.
- Ability to work at a fast pace.

**Desirable Skills (training will be provided)**
- Experience in multiple of the following Excel/SQL/R/Power BI.
- Knowledge of the RAF.
- Understanding of the Statistics Code of Practice
